I propose to return to January 2016, when a difficult one brought me into a wonderful city of motors, to Detroit, where at every step of any motorist, he meets something interesting and unimaginable. In the morning I visited the car dealership, and in the evening I went to have a bite to eat at the local Hard Rock Cafe, which has already become a good tradition. Which is as follows, in every new American city I try to have a meal in this iconic place and see how the new restaurant tried to differ from the previous one, because as you know, there are no 2 identical restaurants of this chain, each of them is a personality and has the right to self-determination)
Calmly parked, walked to the exact address and saw this.
Well, tell me, is it possible to pass by this safely?
Dinner has moved on for a while, it's good that the restaurant is quite democratic and there is no need to book in advance or follow a dress code. I went to see the exposition.
A stunning exhibition of 7 ice sculptures appeared before me. The sculptors took inspiration from iconic cars from the 70s era and modern supercars of the 21st century. Such an interactive was part of the opening of the North American International Auto Show, which, as you already know, I attended. I had to spend a whole day on this from the very morning until closing, to be honest, after 1000 frames my eyes swam, and a persistent allergy appeared on the spotlights)
And, of course, a riddle from the category: What weighs four and a half tons, almost crystal transparency and is parked along the historic park on the sidewalk in Detroit?
The solution is simple, because this is a life-size Lamborghini, completely carved out of ice!
This is the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster, model 2018. Since more than a week has passed since the opening of the car dealership, it is logical that the models responded adequately to global warming and gradually began to give up their icy positions. Close to the shapes, they are no longer so recognizable, and some details have generally sunk into the sewers.
But from afar, the silhouettes aroused puppy delight and interest. And the place was not chosen by chance, the park has become a favorite and central place for the townspeople. Since its inception in 2004, the park has gained international acclaim, helping to attract more than $ 1 billion in new investment to transform the city.
Each sculpture consists of 60-70 blocks. The size is 40 by 80 centimeters. Special lighting creates an illusion of reality and paints the cars in different colors. It took 3 days of work to create 7 cars.
I propose to start a detailed acquaintance, and go ascending.
1957 Chevy Nomad - even then, in the 50s, the designers decided to combine a passenger car and a station wagon, leaving only 2 doors. For that time, it was a rather unusual appearance that distinguished it from any other cars.
The unique design was taken from a Chevrolet-based show car unveiled at the 1954 show. The designer presented the model as a dream car. And GM took and approved the Nomad for production because it believed they could sell more cars similar to the popular Chevrolet Bel Air. The car had a 4.7-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 283 horsepower. But as often happens, dreams are far from reality and after 2 years the car was taken off the assembly line in 1957 due to weak sales.
The Chrysler 300 two-door hardtop coupe was introduced in 1955 in response to the sporty Chevrolet Corvette. Although it was not a sports car or even a muscle car. It was too big, heavy and luxurious, but with a powerful V8 engine under 300 hp. Before us is the 300G model, in the name of which the letter “G” appeared, therefore, the model was produced from 61 to 63 years. The restyled version has slightly changed the design, and the power increased to 380 forces. Just imagine, almost 400 horsepower from a car that was on sale in series in 1955!
The 1966 Ford Mustang is a legend that created a new class of cars. Successful sales did not require additional advertising campaign costs, although the design was not traditional for the American market. Clean lines and proportions, modest size, chrome in a rather limited and organic amount did not meet the standards of a real American car of that time. When the car began to be sold in Europe, it turned out that the word Mustang was registered as a trademark. Ford was so confident of European consumer interest in the car that it refused to buy the Mustang for a modest $ 10,000. I just had to print a new ad with the name Ford T-5.
And here is the Italian hot car - Lamborghini Miura, 1969, named after a farm for breeding fighting bulls. Last year I posted an interesting story about how Miura stood in the garage for almost 30 years. www..ru / b / 452931171752346257 /
That post received more than 200,000 views, and even the editor-in-chief of one automotive publication offered to interview me and share the joy of such an unexpected find)
Compared to the basic version, the SV version is more powerful by 50 forces and lighter by 50 kg. While the base Aventador sounds kind of flawed, for those who bought the regular model and didn't make it to the lucky 500 list. Moreover, as usual, all 500 copies were sold before the start of official sales. By the way, Green Hell, the car passed in less than 7 minutes, which is a serious achievement.
The second generation Audi R8 is built on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan. The body of the supercar combines aluminum and carbon fiber parts, resulting in an unladen weight of only 1.5 tonnes. The hypercar accelerates to the first hundred in 3.4 seconds, and the maximum speed reaches 330 km / h.
Bugatti Chiron, another hypercar from the VAG concern. The model got its name in honor of the race car driver, who played for the factory Bugatti team for over 30 years. Everyone knows for sure about the prohibitive cost of a car, but how else, high technologies cannot be cheap. Someone makes such works of art, and someone writes billions into phone cases, to each his own, in general) So the Michelin company has developed and released exclusive tires for Chiron, worth 42,000 dollars!
So suddenly, stumbled upon a collection of ice cars showcasing an interesting history of automotive innovation and design. By the way, it's pretty safe there or I was just lucky, as always)
To be continued!
There was even a competition for the best selfie in the background or in an ice car, with a nice prize of 1000 dollars, but by my arrival it had already ended)
P / s / I'll write more about Hard Rock café, because there was something to see and share)
