Greetings, dear readers!
In the mid-90s, a small proportion of men changed from tracksuits to formal clothes. Well, how strict … Some of them wore crimson jackets, which for a long time were the cause of jokes and anecdotes of that time. They also switched from "chisels" to "Mercedes" in the 124th body, and the most successful - to "ruble forty." Meanwhile, the bulk of the population of Russia was poor … There was no time to think about ecology and fuel economy. In one case, the image was more important, and in the other case, it was necessary to save not on gasoline, which, by the way, was inexpensive, but on food. It was during this troubled time for our country that the first generation Toyota Prius appeared, which was in great demand in the American and Japanese markets.
For me, this machine was not just an innovation - it was associated with American housewives who raised at least two children and fed them with sprouted wheat grains. A joke, of course. Many people on my blog might have noticed that since that time I have an interest in cars that can be attributed to the conditional group of "electrical insanity". That is why, among my texts, materials about electric vehicles often pop up. So recently I recalled the history of the first electric cars and about hybrid police "Fords"
And this week I was able to touch the legend of hybrid cars - the new fourth generation Toyota Prius. It was an acquaintance that, I hope, will grow into friendship and a deeper study of this model in the future. Toyota has always evoked respect in me - respect for its reliability and its own style, which began to be significantly reborn not only in technical matters, but also in futuristic design.
Yes, many will say that the new Prius has become pretentious and too heavy at first glance. I have a different opinion and believe that the sharp lines, fast-paced design are very suitable for her and this is how a modern hybrid car should look like.
In my short article, don't expect any special technical details - it was just an acquaintance and a small test drive, the route of which ran through the center of Moscow and, importantly, was associated with the recently held GUM Rally Gorkyclassic event, because We drove along these streets. Moreover, I have no opportunity to compare different generations of Prius and I am guided only by the reviews of real owners, which were written including on "Drive2".
First of all, Prius was created not for the sake of economy, but for ecology when operating in metropolitan areas. It is for this reason that there are stories about the huge fuel consumption of this model on the highway on long journeys. Although I would not say that this is really so. However, with each Prius generation, Toyota is refining and complementing its hybrid powertrain, which now develops 95 horsepower (gasoline) plus 71 horsepower (electric). This makes it possible to move in city traffic, using electric traction more often than an internal combustion engine, which significantly reduces fuel consumption.
The new Toyota Prius is the first representative of Toyota's New Global Architecture (abbreviated as TNGA). By building the car from scratch, the engineers were able to optimize the center of gravity as well as lower the headroom, which significantly affected the overall handling of the car. Undoubtedly, the merit of reduced roll and sharper handling also lies in the increased rigidity of the body and in the abandonment of the rear beam in favor of an independent suspension.
We were very pleased with such little things as wireless charging, informative and contrasting displays on the dashboard and center console, as well as a rear-view camera. I was only upset by the lack of parking sensors … but you can install a parking radar at the dealer without any problems.
The trunk is roomy just as much as the fuel tank and batteries, which are located under the rear sofa, allowed to make it. At the same time, the seats fold out into a flat floor and can significantly increase the loading area.
Diode optics in the front and huge rear lights significantly complement the futuristic design, making the car recognizable at night even in dark colors.
This is how I very quickly share with you the first look at the new Toyota Prius, which cannot leave any motorist indifferent. The acquaintance with this car and with the future of the automotive industry took place at the NUST MISIS Center for Prototyping Kinetics and included an excursion led by Vladimir Pirozhkov himself. He patiently answered all of our questions and had the privilege of working directly with Toyota engineers. And at the end of the tour, I signed a commemorative booklet that will live in my family archive.
I must definitely note that you can, like me, carry out a similar test drive (there are still free seats for August 26 and September 23). Read more here. If you are really interested in the new Prius and new Toyota technologies, as well as they are interesting to me, hurry up - the number of seats is limited.
Upd: a full test drive of this car has appeared on my blog!
I really hope that you enjoyed this article! Until next time on my blog!
