Do you know what AvtoVAZ and "Ladas" have always lacked during the almost half-century history of the Togliatti brand? Love. Not people's love - with a terrible shortage of cars in Soviet times, there were no problems with this - but design and engineering love. Let's admit that if beautiful cars appeared in Togliatti (and such cars did appear), then it happened rather in spite of than thanks to the designers of AvtoVAZ. Movement for the better began when a foreigner who knows how to draw beautiful cars entered the office of the chief stylist of "Lada". We if, what about Steve Mattin and his concept car Lada Xcode.
"X-code", presented at the 2016 Moscow International Motor Show, can be called a software concept. It is possible that it will not go into series at all - Steve himself fully admits such a possibility - but many of its elements will be taken apart by the serial VAZ models for quotes. It is a fact. Most importantly, Xcode is a car that not only has a corporate identity, but also a loving attitude to even the smallest details.
There are no random elements here at all. The X-shaped style is read not only in the form of the radiator grill and side stampings, but also in the headlight pattern. Or here are the branded eyebrows on the hood - the same ones are on the Lada 4x4 Vision concept - a reference to the classic sidelights (or rather the sidelights) of the original Niva. It looks like it may become a trademark stylistic feature of future "frets".
Take a look at the progress of the style of the latest Lada models and you will understand - Steve Mattin not for nothing smears caviar on his sandwich. And this is not squash caviar, no, no! If the quasi-off-road X-Ray turned out to be back and forth, then the Vesta is already much better, especially in the SW Cross and Sport versions.
Many are ambiguous about the X-shaped style of "Lada", but you still have to put up with it. You know, we visited the AvtoVAZ design center and saw with our own eyes - X-shaped motifs are used here even on plates in toilets … Do not believe me - watch the video, see for yourself.
Seriously though, restyling in the X-shaped format has greatly and for the better changed the appearance of the nondescript "Grants". And in general, if "Xs" suddenly appear in the design of modern Mitsubishi models (no, no, we are not saying anything, but a strange coincidence, you must agree …) then everything is not so bad. It turns out there is something to copy!
The roof pillars contrasting with the main body color are not only beautiful, but also diverse. It is understood that, if desired, they can be replaced with racks of a different color. Inexpensive and effective customization. Even ubiquitous features such as hidden rear door handles and a rear bumper diffuser with integrated tailpipe trims (we know it's fake, but still looks pretty) add a sporty edge to the car.
Lada X-Code is only a prototype, in fact a mock-up, so the interior is a fake. But we like the direction in which Steve Mattin's design idea is drifting: a minimum of mechanical buttons and switches, a car function selector in the manner of a mobile IDrive, a compact dashboard in the style of a sports car. Anything better than an ocean of glossy and creaking plastic with buttons falling off - the dull aesthetics of the ever-memorable Priora.
The most important thing is that Lada Xcode does not give the impression of a concept car made from under a stick, drawn through I can’t. And even if in this form this car never gets on the conveyor, a place in the history of AvtoVAZ is guaranteed for it. There is a suspicion that the next decade, the Lada's design will be determined by the styles and solutions implemented on this particular hatchback.
How do you feel about the X-shaped style of "Lada"? Do you really like it, just fine, or does it suck anyway?
