The massive transition to subcompact turbo engines has come to Suzuki. Back in the spring, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Boosterjet family of supercharged engines was announced, and now such a motor has settled under the hood of a production car: the Suzuki S-Cross crossover (aka SX4 in the Russian market) with a 1.4-liter turbocharger debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show in China.

The new engine with direct injection and start-stop system develops 136 hp. (at 5500 rpm) and 220 Nm (at 1700-4000 rpm) versus 117 hp. and 156 Nm for an aspirated 1.6, which is well known to Russian buyers of the SX4 model. Moreover, if the version with a naturally aspirated engine is equipped with a five-speed "mechanics" or a variator, then a six-speed "mechanics" or a traditional "automatic" are installed in tandem with a turbo engine, and only a two-pedal version is available for an extra charge.

The turbo crossover is noticeably more dynamic than the atmospheric variation: a front-wheel drive car with a “mechanics” accelerates from zero to “hundreds” in 8.7 seconds versus 11 seconds. But the passport fuel consumption, contrary to the general trend, increased: 5.9 l / 100 km instead of 5.6 l / 100 km for a car with a 1.6 engine.

The 2016 version of the Suzuki S-Cross is for the Chinese market, but maybe this is how we will see the Suzuki SX4 next year in our market.

In China, the Suzuki S-Cross with a turbo engine will start selling in the near future. By the end of the year, Vitara crossovers for the local market will be equipped with the same power unit, and later on other models. But another engine of the Boosterjet family is aimed at the European market: a three-cylinder, 1.0 liter displacement. They will be equipped with the Suzuki Baleno hatchback, which will premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a week. In the future, Suzuki plans to bring cars with turbo engines to the Russian market, but the exact plans have not yet been announced.

I also found a source claiming that Suzuki has released a special version for the Czech market with the same grille and multimedia system as the new Vitara.
