How car suspension diagnostics work

There are several types of this procedure, each of them is good in its own way. Try a few or each one at a time, and then decide which one you like best.

1. Diagnosis of the suspension on the backlash detector

In this way, the diagnosis of the car's suspension is carried out when you feel that the car is clearly "leading" on the road. That is, when accelerating, braking, or simply moving uniformly, the car pulls in one direction or the other. In this case, various knocks are often heard in the car. Suspension diagnostics is that the car is placed ona platform that completely imitates a rough road. There is an imitation of the movement of the car. During the diagnostics, backlashes of all parts that are involved in the suspension system are detected.

2. Another type of verification - computer

Computer diagnostics of the suspension is a very high quality work, but itis not applicable to all vehicles. Only those machines that are equipped with an electronic control system can use this type of check. Such diagnostics take place by reading data from various sensors, so deviations from the factory parameters are detected.

3. Do-it-yourself suspension diagnostics

This method of verification has come down to us since the time of Zhiguli and Muscovites. Even our grandfathers used this method of diagnosis. It consists in the fact that you need to shake the body of the car. After releasing the machine, 1.5 jumps should occur spontaneously: completely up, and then down to half. At the same time, experienced specialists could determine by ear whether there were any knocks and what problems could lead to this. Alas, in our time, such diagnostics are not suitable for modern cars.

4. Another type of test is acoustic

In terms of time, acoustic diagnostics is longer than, for example, diagnostics on a backlash detector, and takes from one to four hours. Such diagnostics takes place using four sensors that make up one device and are connected to the power supply unit, which is located in thistime in the car. They are attached to the suspension of the car. Next, the car is set in motion. The specialist who conducts the diagnostics is sitting in the car at this time and alternately turns on one sensor, then the other, reading the information and determining which part is out of order. As a rule, one trip is not enough to fully diagnose the malfunction - two or three are needed.
