Caring about road safety is, of course, good, but getting into a car interior heated during the day is very unpleasant. Is it possible to tint car windows so as not to violate GOST and not run into fines? Can. For this, athermal tinting is used. It is practically invisible to the eye, its light transmission capacity is higher than the requirements of the standards. But the question arises: if
athermal tinting is almost invisible, what is it for? The thing is that, passing the visible part of the spectrum, it delays ultraviolet and thermal radiation, significantly reducing their harmful effects on the interior.
What does athermal windshield tinting give
Outwardly remaining invisible, the athermal film protects the car interior from burnout and excessive heating. Under the influence of ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures, all materials lose their properties: the skin dries up and cracks, the fabric fades, the plastic becomes less elastic, becomes dry and cracks. If there is no tinting, then the car interior is very hot, and it is very unpleasant to sit in the oven. Athermal windshield tinting solves all these problems. In addition, glasscovered with a film, it is more difficult to break. And if this happens, then the fragments remain on the adhesive tape, do not scatter and do not serve as a source of injury. Another plus: the film, which is used for athermal tinting, softens the blows when stones hit. Thus, it serves as protection against scratches.
Athermal car window tinting helps save money. Not only does the heating of the passenger compartment decrease in the parking lot, most of the ultraviolet radiation and the thermal part of the spectrum are also reflected on the road. This means that the air conditioner operates with less power, saving the car owner's money. And one more thing: in the evening, athermal tinting reduces glare, increasing driving comfort at night.
Calculation of the total light transmission of glasses
Films used for athermal tinting have a light transmission of about 75-82%. This is despite the fact that the minimum allowable value is not less than 70%, i.e. they all comply with GOST. But not everything is so simple. Even new glass is not 100% transparent. This means that before sticking the film, you need to calculate whether the end result will meet the standards.
For example, a new clear windshield allows 90% of the light to pass through. If you stick a film on it with a light transmission of 80%, we will get 72% (0.90.8=0.72) as a result, which corresponds to the standards. But this is the case if the glass is transparent. If the factorymade a light tint, then after sticking the athermal film, the result will not fit into GOST. In this case, it's up to you. Outwardly, this additional coating is invisible, but the results of measurements can give you away.
Types of athermal films
On the market there are films produced by the USA LLumar AIR, which have a light transmission capacity of 75% (gives a yellowish-greenish tint to glass) and 80% (a slightly bluish tint, very similar to Mercedes glass). There are Korean products NEXFIL, which gives the glass a slightly greenish tint. These films are of high quality and offer more than 90% UV and IR protection.

Car tinting is a popular service in the car tuning market, because it provides a lot of benefits for the driver. At the same time, representatives of the traffic police are severely punished for tinting. In order to avoid problems with law enforcement agencies, you need to know what is the maximum percentage allowed in glass tinting

Athermal tinting: reviews, advantages and disadvantages
To ensure good all-round visibility, a modern car has rather large windows around the entire perimeter of the cabin. Through them, of course, everything is very clearly visible. But just as easily, sunlight gets inside. Often it not only shines, but also warms
