Poor results of engine start tests at low ambient temperatures, poor stability when performing maneuvers, the crew's exposure to external influences, the open cabin design - these are the main and very significant disadvantages of the predecessor of the 29061 ZIL auger - model 2906. They were identified after a large number of different tests. The designers subjected the vehicle to all sorts of loads and tests. Unsuccessful tests just contributed to the fact that the ZIL 29061 (all-terrain vehicle) was developed. The improved sample was large. This made it possible to install a pair of powerful engines and increased stability. Removable skis have been developed for transport possibilities.
Design Features
The length has increased by one meter in contrast to the previous model. The cabin was in front, both crew members were located there, as well as recumbent places. At the back was provided a compartment for motors, which contained the engines. The transmission, which the ZIL 29061 auger had, included a considerable number of components:
• 2single disc clutches;
• 2 mechanical four-speed gearboxes;
• 2 spur gearboxes;
• 2 additional reverse gears;• cardan gear.
Management
Simultaneous activation of two gearboxes occurred by moving the lever located to the right of the driver's seat. The gearbox, realizing the possibility of reverse gear, was additional and was called planetary. First gear - the lever, which was located on the left side of the driver, was installed forward. The second - this element goes back. The lever transferred to the PX position turned on the forward movement. When transferred to ZX, reverse was possible. Option "H" corresponded to the neutral position. The screws are made in the form of drums empty inside with cone-shaped ends. In the manufacture of used aluminum alloy for the bottom and stainless steel for the top. Different metals contributed to the increase in wear resistance. The welding seam was protected. This design increased the service life thirty times. To move through the water, the augers installed on the ZIL model 29061 were sealed and divided inside into four compartments. The seats were located in the wheelhouse. She was in a waterproof sealed case. Behind the driver's seat were places for passengers and a stretcher. There was also a heating device. Fuel tanks were located at the rear. One of the disadvantages of the previous model was a poor engine start at low temperatures, in this version this drawback is corrected by the presencestarting heater.
Tested
The weight of the model 29061 ZIL is 1690 kilograms. Curb weight - 1855 kg. Weight with crew - 2250 kilograms. Floating up and going ashore are possible at an angle of twenty-three degrees, and entering the water at a slope of more than 23. At the third gear stage in the main gearbox and the second in the additional gearbox, a thrust force of 760 kilograms was developed. When moving through clear shallow water with a crew of two, a maximum speed of 14.9 kilometers per hour was developed. Fuel consumption in this case was 25.4 liters per hour. With a crew of four, the speed reached 11.3 kilometers per hour. When driving through the quicksand, this figure was 6.1 km / h. When moving sideways on wet sand at a speed of half a kilometer per hour, the 29061 ZIL auger is able to move almost any distance. On dry surfaces, turns were possible in either direction.
Cold
Low temperature tests were also successfully passed. In the snowy plains, the auger was in working order for 128 hours. The engines warmed up and started for twenty-eight minutes at a temperature of about -41 C. At this indicator, doubled, 19 minutes were spent. The auger is capable of moving only in first gears in both gearboxes. With not too low temperatures and average snow depth, with a crew of four, the all-terrain vehicle reached a speed of 25.4 kilometers per hour over a section of 200 meters.
Improvements
To modernize ZIL, it was decided to install more powerful engines. The mechanical transmission of the vehicle has also been redesigned. An improved heater was installed with a new preheating system containing an electric water pump. Higher quality consumables were also used, namely ASZp-6 oil. The upgraded systems showed high results and reliability. The heating elements worked more quickly, and the time to raise the engine temperature to the optimum was about 12 minutes at -40 C. Due to their qualities, snow and swamp vehicles are still not outdated and are useful in rescue operations. They are also great off-road vehicles. ZIL 29061 is one of the worthy representatives of this kind of vehicles.
