Modern and reliable SZAP trailers for various purposes and payloads make it possible to increase the efficiency of freight transportation by forming road trains for various purposes.

Trailer definition

According to the Russian Vehicle Qualification Standard definition, a trailer category is a vehicle that meets the following criteria:

• more than one wheel axle was used in the design;
• the presence of a coupling mechanism capable of vertical movement;
• used towing device provides rotation of the front wheel axle;
• movement is carried out by towing vehicles;
• Hitch does not transmit force to towing vehicle.

• increasing the volume of transportation up to two or more times (when using several trailers at once);
• the ability to form a multifunctional vehicle to organize several types of operations, for example, a car with a CMU (crane-manipulator) is able to load a trailer and its own loading platform, carry out joint transportation of cargo to its destination and, if necessary, unload.

The following factors should be attributed to certain disadvantages:

• increase in the cost of technical and service maintenance of the road train;
• reducing the speed of delivery of goods;
• higher requirements for the professional level of a road train driver;

Organization of trailers

Non-self-propelled vehicles, as trailers are also called, are divided into two large categories according to their functional purpose:

• General use.
• Specialized versions.

General purpose models are trailers capable of transporting various types of cargo without significant modifications. These versions include flatbeds, platforms, platforms, tilt trailers.

Specialized transport a certain range of cargo. These are various models of pipe carriers, panel carriers, tanks, car carriers, refrigerators.

International trailer classification

In our country there is no separately approved classification of trailers, but an international one is used. The current international designation system is based on the grouping by load capacity and includes the following four categories of trailers:

1. Up to 750 kg.
2. From 750kg to 3.50t.
3. 3.50t - 10.0t.
4. More than 10, 0 t.

According to their design, trailers are additionally divided by the number of installed wheel axles.

Trailer manufacturing

One of the largest domestic manufacturers of trailers and semi-trailers is the Stavropol plant of car trailers(official name - the company "Trailer-KAMAZ"). The plant was established in 1968, the first products were manufactured in 1971. Initially, these were flatbed semi-trailers and the SZAP trailer, according to their technical characteristics, intended for operation with trucks of the ZIL and Kolkhida models. In the mid-seventies, the company was redesigned. After the reorganization, the plant began the development and production of SZAP trailers for KamAZ trucks.

The company has constantly expanded its product range through the development and production of new models for various purposes. Currently, the range of SZAP trailers includes 20 basic models and 80 modifications in a variety of configurations. The company produces the following main types of trailers and semi-trailers:

• onboard;
• tipper;
• container ships;
• agricultural.

SZAP trailers have a modern and reliable design. The special features include a large unification of units with KamAZ vehicles, which allows for maintenance at the branded stations of the same name.

Designation of the SZAP-83053 model

A common model produced by the KAMAZ trailer is a three-axle trailer SZAP-83053. Such distribution is provided by the affordable cost of the trailer and a large number of configuration options, the main of which are:

• chassis without floor, for further equipment with settings depending on customer requirements (timber truck, container truck, etc.)etc.);
• chassis with metal or wood floor;
• on-board equipment with a side height of 6.25 cm;
• agricultural option with a side height of 1.70;

The most suitable tractors for the specified model of the SZAP trailer are KamAZ trucks of models 5360 and 53215. Other trucks equipped with a towing mechanism in accordance with GOST 2349-75, as well as having the appropriate load capacity, can also be used.
