In recent years, the number of accidents on the roads has increased. This fact raises questions about what kind of protective equipment a driver can use to prevent an accident in an emergency. Of course, the car's emergency braking system will be the main such protection.
It significantly reduces the braking distance on the car. In English, this system is called Brake assistant. Translated, it means "assistant in braking".
What designs are there
Such mechanisms are conditionally divided into two classes:
- assistant in fully depressing the brake accelerator;
- independent braking assistant.
If we talk about the first type, then such a mechanism creates a full clamp of air in the brake pedal of the car when the driver presses on it. What does this mean, in simple terms? The fact that she "finishes the braking" of the car for the driver. In the second case, braking occurs automatically, and the driver does not take part in this case.
Stop system types
The function of the car's emergency braking system is to cause extreme pressure on the brake pedal in an emergency.
This mechanism is divided into two types:
Pneumatic type mechanism
This system allows the efficiency vacuum twistron to operate in enhanced mode. Complete with the following items:
- ECU (electric power supply);
- electromagnetic stock drive;
- meter (built inside vacuum booster).
This option is installed on machines with an anti-blocking equipment mechanism. The pneumatic type mechanism will determine urgent braking by determining the swiftness of the onslaught on the stopper pedal. The pressing force is fixed by a special converter that transmits the command to the stopper mechanism.
If the onslaught force exceeds the normal value, the mechanism depresses the pedal to the very stop, thus an urgent braking of the car occurs. Interestingly, the truck's emergency braking system is also arranged.
Pneumatic stopper type
It is subdivided into:
- BA - BAS (Assist System);
- EBA (Emergency Brake Assist);
- fits on Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz;
- AFU - installed on Peugeot, Citroën, Renault Group.
Hydraulic mechanism. A type of mechanism such as BA will create an extremely strong influence on the brake substance of the mechanism when subjected to yaw and stable road surface.
What's in this Emergency Brake Assist?
- Electronic control panel.
- Stop communicator button.
- The regulator responsible for measuring the pressure in the brake pedal.
- A converter that counts the number of wheel revolutions.
Due to the sounds from the switches, the ECU turns off the hydromechanical pump of the ESC mechanism and raises the pressure on the brake device to the maximum level. In addition to the speed of pressure on the SBC brake lever, the power of pressure on the brake, road surface, direction of movement and other possible causes are taken into account. Depending on certain criteria, the ECU develops the maximum braking boost to all wheels.
BA Plus variation analyzes the gap to the vehicle in front. If there is a threat of an accident, it gives a signal to the driver or increases the pressure on the brake pedal for him, which significantly reduces the risk of an accident.
Involuntary emergency braking mechanism
This type of emergency brake warning system is more advanced. It identifies the car in front and another obstacle with the support of the locator and video surveillance. The mechanism itself determines the distance to the obstacle and, if a high risk of an accident is detected, reduces the speed of the car. Even if an accident occurs, breakdowns will not be so terrible.
Except automatic emergencybraking, the mechanism is provided with other duties. For example, it warns the driver of the risk of an accident by means of an alarm. Separate passive safety valves are also activated, giving the mechanism the name "Preventive Safety Mechanism".
In detail, this type of emergency stop mechanism is based on other successful protection mechanisms - adaptive cruise control (course endurance).
The analysis confirmed that in most cars in emergency situations, the brakes do not work fast enough. And drivers don't press the lever with the right amount of force when the need arises.
The common Daimler-Benz and Lucas system came to support. And the on-board electronic calculator, according to some standard data, is able to calculate and note the style and braking force of an individual driver. If he is not doing well with the reaction, then the adjustment panel will move the wear phases of the mechanism seconds faster.
The algorithm for manipulating the BAS mechanism is based on the study of the consequences of accidents carried out by the owners of the Mercedes-Benz brand.
In the course of the study, it was found that in an emergency, when the driver needs to urgently stop the car, he clamps the brake stopper quickly enough, but this is not always enough. In this case, the BAS system will come to the rescue. Its functions include constant monitoring of pressure in the pedals, and the control panel of the mechanism analyzes the received data without interruption.
If the pressure of the stop lever exceeds the normalindicator, the control panel gives a signal to the electromagnetic piston in the vacuum amplifier of the stopper, which combines one of the parts of the amplifier with atmospheres. As a consequence, the vacuum booster produces the highest voltage and thus the pressure force in the locking mechanism also rises to the highest level.
