The braking system of any vehicle is of paramount importance. It allows you to avoid dangerous situations while driving and therefore requires special attention. Like other parts, it is subject to wear during operation. There are also frequent cases of mechanical damage.
Description
One of the elements of the system is a reinforced brake hose, which differs from the usual rubber parts by the possibility of self-replacement. Its design includes a special polytetrafluoroethylene tube. The advantage of the material used is the minimum degree of wear during intensive use and high reliability. There are also mixed products that combine modified rubber and PTFE.
The outer side of the tube is covered with a metal braid designed to prevent damage and increase strength. Some reinforced motorcycle brake hoses are equipped with a movable tubeon a plastic base used for extra protection against damage.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantage of polytetrafluoroethylene is its high resistance to aggressive environmental influences, in particular to brake fluid, which is constantly in the hoses. In addition, it is completely sealed and does not even allow moisture to pass through. As noted earlier, the material is less prone to wear, so the reinforced brake hose needs to be replaced much less often.
External braiding of parts prevents damage to the internal section under mechanical stress and high pressure that occurs during braking. The metal is coated with a special composition and is resistant to corrosive phenomena. The operating temperature range is within wide limits and can reach +250 degrees. At the same time, the reinforced brake hose retains its insulating characteristics and fracture strength.
The usual rubber parts are significantly inferior to modern reinforced counterparts. Among the main disadvantages are the following:
- over time, the walls crack and the seal is broken;
- Material segregation possible due to brake fluid influence;
- short service life;
- changing the internal section due to the softness of the material;
- susceptibility to mechanical damage.
Installation
Manufacturing of reinforced brake hoses is possible for a specific motorcycle model, which greatly simplifies installation. The design also includes steel fittings necessary for fixing products. They are selected individually and can have internal and external threads, as well as a hole for fixing with a bolt. Flaring is required to fasten the fittings. The increase in tightness is achieved by using copper washers. They are necessary for sealing fittings and parts of the brake system during installation. It is worth noting that if the reinforced brake hose is too long, it can be shortened using a grinder with a cutting disc. In its absence, you can use sharpened side cutters.

The brake system of a car requires regular maintenance. In particular, this applies to replacing brake pads, inspecting discs for defects, changing fluid, etc. But far from always this is done on time and is done at all. Many turn to the service station only in case of obvious malfunctions. But all this can be avoided if you change the pads in a timely manner and do not forget to grind the brake discs
