ZIL 130 dump trucks are true veterans of the domestic automotive industry. These machines rolled off the assembly line for almost half a century between 1962 and 2010. Initially, Moscow was the assembly place for these trucks, but at the dawn of the 1990s they began to be produced in Novouralsk. These unique cars will be discussed in this article.
Historical background
ZIL 130 dump trucks began to be developed in 1953, already far from us. These cars became a modernized version of the 125 model. Truck tests were carried out in 1959, and three years later the first cars began to be sold. In 1963, the Soviet automobile development was awarded a gold award at the international exhibition in Leipzig. Serial production of ZIL began already in 1964, and soon it began to be sold out en masse throughout the country.
Destination
ZIL 130 dump trucks had a wide range of applications. These trucks have been used on construction sites, farming, helping utilities run their operations, being used for commercial purposes and even in the service of the military. At the same time, the main task of these vehicles was the transportation of heavy loads. ATNowadays, machines of this series are in the ranks of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and Ukraine.
Parameters
The technical characteristics of the ZIL 130 (dump truck) is as follows:
- Height - 2400 mm.
- Length - 6675 mm.
- Width - 2500 mm.
- Clearance - 275 mm.
- The minimum possible turning radius is 8900 mm.
- Drive speed limit is 90 km/h
- Fuel consumption at full load - 37 liters per 100 kilometers.
- Fuel tank capacity - 175 liters.
- Capacity - 6 tons.
At a speed of 60 km/h, the car will need 28 meters of braking distance.
Powerplant
ZIL 130 dump trucks originally had six-cylinder engines with a capacity of 135 horsepower and a volume of 5.2 liters. But practice has shown that these indicators were not enough for cars, and therefore the engine has undergone modernization. The updated version has already received a power of 150 horsepower. A mechanical type pump was also built in, which provided acceleration and lubrication of friction units. The engine itself ran on low-quality A-76 gasoline.
Today ZIL 130 is equipped with a four-stroke eight-cylinder engine with a carburetor. The technical characteristics of such an engine are as follows:
- Volume - 6 liters.
- Power - 150 hp
- Torque limit - 401 Nm.
- Compression ratio - 6, 5.
Throughout the history of the truck, the body has undergone some changes. ZIL 130 dump truck was modernized twice, as a result of whichthe cab and grille were changed. Otherwise, no major reconstruction work took place on the machine.
General description of the device
ZIL 130 as a whole is quite simple in its design. On the front suspension there are two semi-elliptical springs, and on the rear - a pair of main and additional springs.
The truck has a mechanical transmission. The gearbox has five speeds. Torque from the gearbox to the rear axle is transmitted using a cardan.
The brake system of the machine was originally functioning due to the presence of a pneumatic system. The air reserve was provided by the presence of a specialized reservoir. The parking brake had a drum to lock the driveshaft.
The cab of the car had a streamlined shape with an alligator-type hood. The number of seats in it was three. At the same time, the driver's seat could be adjusted both vertically and horizontally. The angle of the backrest also changed.
From the innovations of that time, it is worth noting the presence of a power steering, which made it possible to successfully drive the car even if the wheel broke while driving.
The semi-centennial history of the truck shows that it turned out to be very unpretentious and easy to operate, thanks to which it can still be found on the streets today.
