When choosing automotive wires, you must take into account the manufacturer's recommendations and carefully study the packaging. It indicates the models of engines and cars on which they are used. It is not recommended to purchase products that lack the manufacturer's data or the text is misspelled.
Insulation materials are typically PVC plastic, which is resistant to a wide range of temperatures, acid, gasoline, oils and flame retardant.
What you need to know
The use of high resistance wiring is not recommended in systems generating high voltage pulses and low power. This contributes to misfires in the combustible mixture and a decrease in spark power, which is especially noticeable when starting a cold engine in winter.
Measuring the resistance level is possible with a special tester, but its use is not always rational. For example, the design features of cables with conductive sheathing lead tochange in resistance during motor operation, due to which this method becomes ineffective. It is worth noting that a conventional radio allows you to identify the level of interference generated by high-voltage wiring and electrical equipment.
Section
The cross section of automotive wires is selected in accordance with the laying method (bundle or single), mechanical strength, maximum voltage and allowable heat. The voltage level in the ignition system determines the preferred insulation material. At high voltages, the insulation must prevent breakdown. The best option would be wires for automotive wiring with caps and insulation made of silicones and other materials that are not subject to melting at high temperatures and cracking in frost. It is also worth noting that the structure of silicone allows for strong bending of the wires and prevents the possibility of electrical breakdown.
Automotive wires: operating rules
Regardless of the materials used in the manufacture and the cables themselves, the following rules must be observed:
- regular tightening of clamps at wiring connection points;
- cleaning cables from contamination and timely elimination of damage when they are detected;
- electrolyte, gasoline, oil and other liquids should not get on the high-voltage car wire;
- Checking the voltage level drop on the start contact connections,electricity and lighting;
- using protective covers for plug connections and lubricating with a special compound;
- disconnection of connections is made only if necessary, as this contributes to the disruption and weakening of contacts;
- observance of the necessary distance between the mass of the engine and the heated elements of the motor;
- Checking the quality of the cables fit into the sockets of the candle tips and the distributor cap;
- timely detection of the causes of a short circuit, their elimination and replacement of fuse-links;
- Check plug and screw connections for oxidized and rusty parts.
If it is necessary to replace inserts, fuses with the correct voltage rating or wire gauge must be used.
Manufacturers are trying to make it easier to find circuits and connections by painting wires in various colors, from black to red and white. The base color on top can be covered with tinted enamel in the form of stripes and rings. It is worth noting that the minimum service life of the cables is 8 years.
Faults
If car wires are damaged or broken, symptoms similar to a failed spark plug will occur. The motor starts to triple at idle, the nature of the work becomes unstable, the car itself begins to twitch when you press the gas. In this case, the current does not reach the candle or is not supplied completely.
Interruptions in the operation of the motor speak ofdamage to the armored wire, which may occur for the following reasons:
- car wires have a high level of resistance;
- current leakage and breakdown due to the destruction of the integrity of the cable insulation;
- damage to the conductive cores responsible for the impulse;
- breakage of contacts at the point of connection to the coil and spark plugs.
