The Ford Shelby GT500 has received another significant update that has touched the engine, steering and recalibration. Let's see which ones. Features
The first thing you should pay attention to in the new model is an update in the engine compartment. Although the engine is still a 5.4-liter turbocharged V8 with a six-speed manual transmission, its power can now reach 800 horsepower. In addition, the Ford Shelby GT500 is additionally equipped with cooling ducts for the front brakes, which provide a smoother ride and more control over the car. The model is equipped with electric power steering. The suspension properties of the Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake have not changed, but there are new additional performance upgrades that make it possible to increase the power of this car.
Perhaps one of the most important improvements is the new forged 20-inch wheels thatsomewhat lighter than 19-inch and slightly wider than them. The developers claim that, thanks to this, the speed of the car increased by almost 3%, and the acceleration increased by 0.1 seconds. In addition, a glass roof is available for the first time on the Ford Shelby GT500.
Engine
The aluminum engine in today's cars is nothing new. It is more profitable because it is lighter than iron, besides it is a better conductor, so such an engine, as a rule, can conduct heat better. However, despite all these positive qualities, aluminum cannot withstand the pressure of the piston, moving up and down the cylinder. He's too soft. The most common solution to this problem is to install special iron tabs in the cylinders. This fixes the life issue but adds weight to the product.
There are several special coatings for aluminum that can replace iron. So, Ford has patented a new coating called PTWA specifically for the new Ford Shelby GT500. When applied, a steel bar is used (as in welding), with which the aluminum cylinder is coated with iron oxide (not to be confused with rust!). PTWA is far from new technology - the aerospace industry has long used this type of coating to reinforce aluminum components such as turbine blades.
Distinctive features of the car
In terms of interior and exterior, this is a powerful muscle car. The first thing that catches your eye is its amazing fiberglass hood, which hasoriginal design, "Shelby" lettering and a distinctive snake emblem, of course. In addition, its uniqueness is emphasized by contrasting stripes running throughout the body of the Ford Shelby GT500.
Price for the base model is about $29,500 and about $33,500 extra for a more powerful option. However, these are the manufacturer’s prices and they are valid only in the USA, while in Russia the price of this “mad snake” is an order of magnitude higher: $ 100,000–150,000. But note that the Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be released in a limited edition, only 500 copies, so obviously not everyone will be able to purchase it.
