All of the above applies to one of the best Soviet heavy all-terrain vehicles - KrAZ 255. It was all-terrain vehicles - it was created in order to ensure the delivery of goods and people to any place on any road and off-road.

This car was created by order of the military to replace the already obsolete KrAZ 214B. In 1967, the first KrAZ 255 was produced and was produced until 1994, and the production was discontinued at the request of the plant, although there were still orders for it. Despite the fact that initially the customers were the military, it was widely used in civilian life. On its basis, timber trucks, tankers, cranes, dump trucks, truck tractors, etc. were created. Application for such a car was not onlywithin the country, but also abroad.

The car itself was extremely simple. His cabin was wooden, upholstered in iron, the control panel was primitive with a small set of simple instruments. But the advantages of this car were not in a comfortable cabin. Its wheel formula is 6x6, which means three driving axles. The KrAZ 255 has quite impressive technical characteristics, the weight is a little over eleven thousand kilograms, the carrying capacity is a little more than eight thousand kilograms, and additionally it can transport a trailer weighing ten thousand kilograms with almost no decrease in its characteristics.

The maximum speed of the KrAZ 255 is seventy-one kilometers per hour, and it is maintained even with a fully loaded trailer of ten tons. At a speed of sixty kilometers, fuel consumption is thirty-five liters per hundred. The suspension is spring, the tires are wide-profile, for which this car received the nickname "lappet". In any case, he is quite capable of overcomingdepth of one meter, climbs up to 56 °, and tire inflation allows you to change the pressure in them depending on the ground.

Despite the fact that the production of this car has been discontinued for a long time, due to its excellent maintainability and amazing unpretentiousness, it is still in operation, and you can often find ads: "I will sell KrAZ 255 in good condition." Moreover, any body, tank or other auxiliary equipment can be installed on its frame.

The heavy all-terrain vehicle KrAZ 255, designed and manufactured for the needs of the Soviet Army, has also found wide application in the most peaceful sectors of the national economy. He could be seen everywhere: from the airfield, where he performed the tasks of an aircraft tug, to impassable forest roads with a multi-ton load of logs. Universal, unpretentious and all-weather car was in demand in various areas of the vast country.
