A distinctive feature of the ZIL-130 MMZ-554 was its adaptability to roads with poor coverage. Largely due to this, this car is still popular today. In addition, it is a simple, reliable and unpretentious dump truck.
However, many consider it an outdated model. This is due to the small carrying capacity and high fuel consumption. With a load capacity of fourtons average fuel consumption is thirty liters. When connected to a trailer, consumption increases by another five liters.
The first models of the ZIL-MMZ-554 car were produced with gasoline engines. But during a difficult economic situation, when a decrease in the production of low-octane grades led to a rise in the price of gasoline, carburetors were abandoned. They were replaced by D-245 diesel engines. The new modification turned out to be more economical.

Basic dump truck models originally had two petrol engine options:
Eight-cylinder liquid-cooled
With six cylinders and 110 horsepower
In both variants, A-72 gasoline, and later A-76, was used as fuel. The volume of the fuel tank is 175 liters.
Diesel engines D-245, which were installed in later models, had a capacity of up to 150 horsepower. This was enough to accelerate without a trailer to ninety kilometers per hour. Fuel consumption at full load and speeds up to forty kilometers per hour is twenty-eight liters. When lifting a loaded car, the consumption increases to fifty liters.
Manual transmission has five gears.
To stop when driving on a flat road without slopes at a speed of thirty kilometers per hour, eleven meters are needed. ZIL braking system is pneumatic. Drum type brakes.
