The Fiat 125 rolled off the assembly line in 1967 and ended production in 1983. The Italian manufacturer chose to release the car in three versions: coupe, station wagon and sedan. Although the car was produced more than 30 years ago, it can still be seen on the streets and on the go. Surprisingly, she turned out to be "tenacious".
Externally, the Fiat 125 may resemble the VAZ-2101 (better known as the Zhiguli or Kopeyka). Differences in appearance are in different lengths of the wheelbase, chassis and suspension. The unit installed on the car had a power of 125 hp, the engine was designed for 1.6 liters, it worked in conjunction with mechanics or a three-speed automatic.
In a few years (until 1972, when production in Italy ceased), about 604 thousand sedans were produced. Simultaneously with the "native" version of the car, the Polish model was produced. It featured round headlights. After a while, the lineup was replenished with station wagons and pickups, which had the same name "Fiat" 125. The engine of the car from Poland was less powerful.
Reasonsproduction
The reason for creating a new car was the desire of the manufacturer to combine the best configurations in one model, discarding what did not live up to expectations. Details such as the hood, bumper, chassis and engine were taken from various models. Thanks to this solution, it was not necessary to spend a lot of money, respectively, and the overall cost for consumers was reduced. This is what ensured the success of the Fiat 125. In fact, if you look at any photo of this model, you are unlikely to be sure that this is a pure "Italian". Due to the fact that VAZ signed an agreement with FIAT, the latter's car became a prototype for the Zhiguli.
FIAT 125 Special
One year after the introduction of the original car, a special version appeared. "Fiat" 125 has become stronger, more stable and tougher. The motor was changed - a more powerful one was installed. The gearbox remained mechanical. This same version was further modified in 1970. Among the modifications, you can notice an automatic transmission in three steps. These were practically the last and only technical characteristics that subsequently changed. All other restyled versions differed only in design.
Similarity with VAZ-2101
For Russians, the "one hundred and twenty-fifth" model will always be associated with the domestic VAZ. However, they are the same only in external signs.
At the time when AvtoVAZ bought a license to produce a car, the manufacturer combined the base 124 and 125FIAT models. And so the well-known "Kopeyka" was born.
