Exhaust system
Exhaust system

The exhaust system is designed to remove combustion products from the engine and discharge them into the environment. At the same time, noise pollution should be reduced to acceptable limits. Like any other set of devices, this system consists of several basic elements, such as an exhaust valve and channel, a silencer, a resonator, as well as connecting pipes and clamps. The exhaust system has a simple and understandable principle of operation - exhaust gases through the pipeline enter an additional silencer, and then into the main one, while both the noise level and the concentration of harmful substances are reduced to the maximum. Of interest is the internal structure of the muffler. The latter consists of many shutters and partitions, enclosed in a single body. The checkerboard arrangement of all these "obstacles" in the path of combustion products contributes to a significant loss of their speed. As a result, the so-called "quiet" gases are obtained at the outlet, which subsequently dissolve in the atmosphere.

For example, thanks to this device, many harmful compounds (nitric oxide, hydrocarbons, carbon oxides) are retained and returned back. Let's take a closer look at the nitrogen oxide return system to the intake manifold. The main reason for the formation of this compound is the high temperature in the combustion chamber. The concentration of this substance can be reduced by lowering the operating temperatures. The simplest and most efficient way to do this is by returning some of the generated exhaust. Such exhaust gas recirculation helps to reduce the combustion temperature of the fuel mixture, but the composition of the latter and the ratio of substances remain unchanged. In addition, the fluctuation in power indicators can be considered insignificant. The exhaust system of many modern car models contains a catalyst in its structure, which is designed to neutralize and purify exhaust emissions.

The main types of malfunctions of this car system can be called an increase in noise levels and an increase in the concentration of harmful exhaust substances. The exhaust system, due to its low location relative to the ground, can be partially or completely damaged. In addition, driving on uneven areas is likely to lead to a violation of the tightness of the connecting parts. All this entails a loss of system integrity and, accordingly, an increase in noise pollution from your car. In turn, the negativechanges in the composition of the exhaust gas mixture may be the result of incorrect settings of control systems or contamination of exhaust devices.

The exhaust system for long and efficient use imposes some requirements on operation: connecting pipes, resonator and muffler should not directly come into contact with other structural elements of the car. This precaution will ensure not only the long life of the exhaust means, but also the safety of adjacent systems.
