Over the past few years, Yamaha has been clearly losing ground. The reason for this is the economic crisis, and after that the accident at Fukushima. And now the Japanese company has released a bike, not a modification, but a completely new motorcycle.
Promising
Yamaha MT-09 (FZ-09) is the epitome of a new approach to the development of sportbikes. A light chassis, a frisky 3-cylinder engine with a volume of 850 cm33 - everything says about the sporty mood of the "iron horse". Fans of high speed will not be disappointed.
Restart MT
Yamaha's MT-09 motorcycles represent the beginning of a new direction in the development of sportbikes and at the same time are a restart of the ideas that shaped the first generation of MT. The car was created by a development team that changed the understanding of the Supersport category as a whole by releasing the R1 model. The novelty defied the trend of bike design, providing riders with a new level of performance and comfort.
On the European market
Approximately 40% of all sports motorcycle sales occur in the European market. Despite the economic crisis in Europe, this segment continues to be in high demand among consumers, and sales figuresremain at a high level. Yamaha is confident that this trend will continue in the 700-900cc class3. With this in mind, the Yamaha MT-09 was released. Tuning "iron horse" is useless - it looks very impressive without it.
The European consumer is beginning to appreciate the benefits of sportbikes. With excellent ergonomics, they are suitable for both quiet city driving and high-speed country races, and their high controllability and power will cope with a large number of tasks.
Yamaha MT-09 engine
Characteristics of the engine to match the supersport class motorcycle. The developers managed to create a compact 3-cylinder engine that delivers high torque. During its design, a lot of attention was paid to the sound of the exhaust and the visual appeal of the engine. In addition, the development team has managed to achieve excellent environmental and economic performance of the motorcycle.
The fuel injection system consists of 12-hole injectors that spray liquid evenly. They are directly connected to the four-valve cylinder head. This ensures precise fuel injection and hence fuel economy.
Expense
Another distinguishing feature of the fuel system is the use of a compact fuel pump. Thanks to this, a narrow 14-liter gas tank was installed on the Yamaha MT-09. An efficient injection system allows you to drive on a full tank of about 240 km of road without refueling.
Transmission
Maximizing the potential of the engine is helped by a brand new 6-speed gearbox with optimized gear ratios, ideally suited to the character of the Yamaha MT-09. A high gear ratio of 1,708 makes it possible to cope with high torque at low revs. Gear ratios of all six speeds are also tuned for using the bike in daily conditions.
Riding modes
The novelty is equipped with a D-Mode system, which allows the driver to choose one of three different throttle modes, namely: STD, A or B.
The first one is designed for many road conditions and different situations. It allows the owner to enjoy powerful torque throughout the entire rev range.
In A mode, the Yamaha MT-09 engine delivers instant throttle response at low to medium speeds.
Activated mode B makes the bike's character and throttle response more compliant. It is well suited for city trips or for riding in bad weather.
Exhaust system
The novelty is equipped with an integrated 3 in 1 exhaust system, which is a short muffler and three internal expansion chambers. The muffler produces a pleasant sound, and its placement favorably contributes to the distribution of weight, which provides excellent handling and maneuverability. Nanofilm's special exhaust pipe coating maintains its original appearance by protecting the system from fading and rust.
Weight reduction and space saving
Painstaking workdesigners to reduce weight and efficiently use free space has led to the fact that the motorcycle has become one of the lightest among sportbikes with an engine displacement of 700 cm 3: wet weight of the "iron horse" - 188 kg, dry - 171 kg. The Yamaha MT-09 is lighter than the YZF-R6, considered one of the fastest in its class.
Chassis
To optimize the performance of the powerful 3-cylinder engine, the motorcycle was equipped with a new compact and lightweight chassis made of aluminum. Reducing the weight and size of the power unit made it possible for designers to change the structure of the frame as a whole.
Sports chassis provides excellent handling: any maneuvers are carried out easily and predictably. Even on serious potholes, the suspension does not penetrate, and the bike continues to confidently hold the trajectory of movement.
It should be noted motorcycle brakes. For this price range of bikes, they are simply excellent. The Sumitomo radial braces are more than successful at slowing down the iron horse. During hard braking, the front fork does not fold, which allows you to safely use the brakes in corners.
Result
During its long and illustrious history, Yamaha has created many innovative motorcycles. And now a new model has appeared, designed to open another chapter in the history of the Japanese company.
Yamaha MT-09 is a modern sports bike suitable for both urban traffic and trips outside the city. The powerful powertrain combined with the original chassis delivers excellent driving performance for this price range.
