The Nissan Pulsar is a small to medium-sized car manufactured by the Japanese automaker between 1978 and 2005. Since 2013, the production of the series has been resumed. Also known as Datsun or Cherry in the European market.
First generation N10
The first generation Nissan Pulsar was introduced in 1978. It was based on the Datsun Cherry platform. In the US market, it was sold under the brand name Datsun 310. The four-door Pulsar was created as an intermediate link between the Sunny sedan and the Cherry two-door hatchback.
Due to the transverse arrangement of the engine, which transmits rotation to the front axle, a long crocodile-shaped hood has become a characteristic feature of the design of the five-seater hatchback. The overall appearance was angular, with even the headlights being boxy. A full-length black grille was located between them.
Later, the configuration options expanded. There were 3-door hatchbacks and 4-door sedans. 1, 2 and 1.4-liter gasoline engines were supplemented with power units in 1, 1, 3 and 1.5 liters.
Second Generation
Nissan Pulsar N12 was introduced in April 1982. Externally, the design has become more streamlined. The "portfolio" of engines ranged from a low-powered 37-kilowatt to a turbo engine with a power output of 84 kW. Also included was a single 1.7-liter diesel. In the European market, a model with a high-performance 1.5-liter GTi gasoline unit was successfully sold. In 1984, the car was restyled.
Third generation
Technical characteristics of the Nissan Pulsar N13 have not changed much. Perhaps the 1.8-liter engine became an important addition, but it was installed only on cars intended for the Japanese market. Body options remained the same: 3/5-door hatchbacks and 5-door sedan. For the sake of experiment, an all-wheel drive version was released, which won the Japan Car Award.
But the appearance of the model has become different. The massive radiator grille disappeared, the head optics became more perfect, branded rims appeared. But in general, the design remained angular in order to reduce the cost of production.
Fourth Generation
Trends towards a more rounded design are reflected in the development of the Nissan Pulsar N14, introduced in 1990. The new generation was remembered primarily for its more powerful engines. Moreover, the power plants for Europe and Asia differed. In Japan, the following engine options existed:
- 1.3 L (1295cm3): 58KW;
- 1.5 L (1497cm3): 69 kW;
- 1.6 L (1596cm3): 81kW;
- 1.8 L (1838 cm3): 103 kW;
- 2.0 L (1998 cm3): 169 kW;
- 1.7 L (1680 cm3): 40 kW (Diesel).
In Europe, the most common variants were 1.4-liter eight-valve 55-kilowatt and sixteen-valve 63-kilowatt engines. All-wheel drive sedans and hatchbacks were intended for Australia.
The "charged" version of the GTI-R caused a big buzz. It is equipped with a two-liter turbocharged engine with 169 kW and 280 Nm of torque. The rear wing and additional air intakes on the hood hint at high-speed characteristics. By the way, the "maximum speed" is 232 km / h. Sports modification successfully participated in the World Rally Championship.
Generation N15
The fifth generation Nissan Pulsar was sold in Europe as the Nissan Almera. It differed from the Asian "Pulsars" only in additional equipment and installed engines. The design for all variations was identical. Finally, the appearance of the model has become more modern, in some ways even elegant.
The halved grille, coupled with oval headlights, resembles unfolded wings of a moth. Bumpers painted in body color no longer look like a foreign body. Plastic door linings and patterned wheels once again emphasize that we have a new generation of the middle class car.
Rebirth
From 2006 to 2012, Nissan Pulsarwas not produced. In 2013, marketers decided to revive the brand that has been around for decades. However, according to a strange Japanese tradition, the same names were given to different cars, and vice versa - different names - of the same model. For example, in Oceania and Australia, the Nissan Sylphy was sold under the Pulsar name. A year later, the Tiida model was already acting as Pulsar.
In May 2014, Pulsar first appeared in Europe. The car is produced in Spain and built on the Tiida C12 platform. But this is not a direct successor to the old Tiida, but a new design specially designed for the European consumer. And again there is a leapfrog with renaming. For example, in Russia the same model is sold under the name Tiida C13.
"Nissan" is making a serious bet on the "Pulsar" of the new generation. With it, the company aims to regain a competitive position in the European mid-range hatchback market. The vehicle is equipped with a 1.2-liter DiG-T petrol engine with 84 kW power output and a 1.6-liter DIG-T engine with 140 kW. In addition, the diesel range has been supplemented with a more economical 1.5-liter engine with 78 kW.
Nissan Pulsar reviews
You can't say that Pulsar grabs a star from the sky. It's a workhorse for everyday use. The latest generation looks very stylish, especially pleased with the quality and design of the interior.
In general, the feedback from the owners is a solid "four". The vehicle is unpretentious in operation. The engine range allows you to choose between economy andtraction. Sizes represent the sweet spot between compact vans and family sedans.
