Vehicle dimensions

In the modern world, each vehicle has many characteristics, a special place among which is occupied by width, height and length - the so-called vehicle dimensions. These indicators not only allow you to determine the place occupied by the machine, but also calculate the space that it needs for various maneuvers, for example, turning 90 degrees or turning around. In addition, the class of the car directly depends on the size criteria.

Dimensional parameters of the car help to highlight similar vehicles and group them into several classes. However, such a structure is not international in nature. There are three main classifications of cars in the world: European, Japanese and American.

According to the first, the whole variety of vehicles is divided into nine categories, or classes. This structure is based on the external dimensions of the car. In turn, the second is based on the volume of the engine installed on the car, and its dimensions. The latter differs from the first two in an expanded set of criteria: it takes into account not only the engine size, but also the volume of the trunk and interior, as well as the dimensions of the car and its market value.

Of course, the European classification also takes into account the cost of the car and the set of installed options. In this regard, each classification can be considered conditional, and the presented boundaries between segments are rather blurred. Let's take a closer look at the European structure. It distinguishes 6 main groups and 3 additional ones, which include cars that do not belong to any other segment.

Class A

Group of extra small vehicles. The dimensions of the car of this group do not exceed 3.6 meters in length and 1.6 meters in width. Small cars that are designed for tight city streets can be safely attributed to this category. Due to their small size, they offer good economy and ample parking space.

Class B

The dimensions of the car of this group are slightly larger: 3.6-3.9 m in length and 1.5-1.7 m in width. A popular type of car with an engine capacity rarely exceeding 1.6 liters.

Class D

Class E

Luxury cars that rightly belong to the business class. Replenishment of models in this category is mainly carried out by luxury car manufacturers.

Class F

An executive class of cars, which is characterized by a huge number of options, the most spacious comfortable interior and a total length of more than 5 meters.

Additional classes (S, M, J) include sports cars, minivans and off-road vehicles, respectively.
