In the 1980s, the US military put out a tender for an off-road vehicle for its own use. It was for this purpose that the Lamborghini jeep was created. The model was named LM002. It was a light and at the same time roomy car, which was characterized by high cross-country ability and the ability to install weapons. Despite this, the Italians did not manage to become the winners of the competition, since it was won by the local Hammer. Powerplant
Although the tender was lost, representatives of the Italian automobile concern suggested that the car could be used for civilian purposes. As a result, in 1986, during the motor show in the Belgian city of Brussels, the official first presentation of the model took place, which after that was produced for another seven years. Jeep "Lamborghini" was equipped with a 450-horsepower carburetor engine with a volume of 5.2 liters. He hadV-shaped and consisted of twelve cylinders. The power unit functioned in conjunction with a five-speed "mechanics". The maximum possible speed of an SUV is 200 km / h, and fuel consumption in these conditions is 53 liters per hundred kilometers. One of the main advantages of the car is that the Lamborghini jeep has high cross-country ability and stability, which are successfully combined with a soft ride even on loose roads. The manufacturer managed to achieve this largely due to the wide tires.
Chassis and interior
Now a few words about the running gear. The designers installed front ventilated brakes on the SUV. In addition, each of the disks boasts the presence of two calipers. At the rear, a drum brake system was used. This decision was dictated primarily by the large mass of the car, because the Lamborghini jeep weighed about three tons. The inclusion of front-wheel drive could only be done with a special key. This caused some discomfort, since the driver had to leave the passenger compartment for this. According to experts, this was the main reason that the US Army abandoned the LM002 and opted for the Hammer. This is not surprising, because in combat conditions such a feature was life-threatening. The interior of the SUV can hardly be called spacious. It is visually divided into two halves by a propeller shaft, which greatly complicates the movement from the rear seats tofront. As for the adjustment, only the front seats move here.
Finished production
Despite the efforts of the Lamborghini designers, the car still remained purely military. The hopes regarding the interest of the Arab sheikhs, for whom he turned out to be very modest, did not come true either. This was the reason that the car was removed from the assembly line in 1993. For some time, the car was used by the armed forces of Saudi Arabia, Libya and Lebanon. If we talk about the cost of such an unusual car as a Lamborghini jeep, its price now averages 120 thousand US dollars, which is equivalent to 4 million rubles.
