In 1995 the famous Mercedes-Benz W214 was replaced by the Mercedes W210. This novelty surprised all motorists. Traditional cladding was retained by manufacturers, but new lighting equipment appeared. And one of the main features of this car are the twin oval-shaped headlights. They became a key detail of the new look.

"Mercedes W210" practically did not deviate from the trends followed by manufacturers. The new model is larger than its predecessor. The length was increased by 5.5 centimeters, and the width - by 5.9 cm. The wheelbase, respectively, was also not left without attention. She has grown by 33 millimeters. Due to this seemingly insignificant change, the cabin has become much more spacious. Passengers in the back row will certainly feel free, because this is plus as much as 44 millimeters in the knee area! And 34mm wide. Practicality is also not to be underestimated. If earlier a person owned, say, the 124th Mercedes and changes seats to the W210, he will not have to get used to anything. Absolutely all organs and controls are placed in the same way as usual. Although their number has changed. There are more devices. Even in the ordinary, basic modification, the novelty of 1995 has as many as 11 electrical control systems. It was the first diesel engine equipped with direct injection in the history of the company. This is a fairly powerful engine, and they began to install it first on the Mercedes W210. The scheme for its manufacture was as follows: another “five”, 2.5-liter, was taken as the basis. Due to the absence of a prechamber, the combustion process is more efficient, namely, less heat is lost. Thus, it turned out to provide the power unit with a greater level of efficiency and minimizecontent of toxic substances. And on the engine, the developers used a turbocharger with the so-called intercooling. This results in maximum torque.

This engine is as powerful as a 3.2-litre petrol V6 and a 4.2-litre V8. And of course, one cannot fail to note the fact that this turbodiesel is the only one in its range that has only two valves per cylinder.

Equipment

Automatic transmissions were offered in the Mercedes W210, but as standard equipment this type of transmission could only be seen on the two most expensive versions - E320 and E420. In the first case, a 4-band automatic transmission was installed, in the second - a 5-speed one.

This car had ABS as standard, as well as the so-called traction control, which operates at a speed not exceeding 40 km / h. Due to this system, the slipping wheel was braked. In the event that the car was offered with automatic transmission, then with it a person got the opportunity to order ASR, that is, a traction control system. And due to it, the wheels not only slowed down, but also minimized the moment that is transmitted to the power unit directly from them.

Generally,the developers had such a task - to minimize the weight of the car. And the developers have installed a traditional, two-lever. Due to it, it was possible to provide an excellent trajectory of the wheel. And this reflects well on the behavior of the car. Due to the good mass distribution, excellent suspension characteristics and high-quality tires, it was possible to provide the Mercedes W210 with excellent handling and cornering.

And by the way, for the first time on an E-class car, a rack and pinion steering mechanism was used. And its main advantage in this case is lightness. After all, she made it possible to save as much as six kilograms! And another plus is the same efficiency in all directions.

Important additions

Rain sensors were also installed on this model. These infrared diodes, located at the top of the windshield, send out invisible beams in such a way that they bounce off the glass and hit the sensors. With this, raindrops affect the refractive index, and the system itself activates the wiper.

The washers look pretty impressive. If they do not work, then they are not visible, since the developers decided to hide these elements between the headlights. And if you turn them on, they will move forward and begin to spray the optics with powerful jets. By the way, the headlightsordinary, and xenon, gas-discharge.
