In our society, there is a stereotype that an automatic transmission is cool, and a mechanical (manual) transmission is much inferior to it. These beliefs are not always true. Each of the modifications has its own advantages and disadvantages.
For example, automatic transmission is inferior to mechanics in a number of positions. The mechanics transmits torque more economically and allows you to get more power from the engine. Parts of the mechanical box do not wear out so quickly and can be easily repaired. There are also many disadvantages of manual transmission control. First, driving a car in manual mode is much more difficult. Secondly, the choice of gear suitable for a particular traffic situation is often carried out intuitively. Thirdly, the elements of the clutch mechanism are subject to greater wear. In addition, manual control often leads to engine overloads, and its repair increases operating costs.
Has its own characteristics of operation and automatic transmission. Of course, driving a car on automatic is very easy. Car owners living in cities are well aware of this. They don't have overload problems, andthe engine is always running in the right mode. True, when transmitting torque, there are often significant losses of power, and sometimes it is felt that the automatic transmission is kicking. But this can be tolerated. But it is simply impossible to accelerate such a car to the maximum speed, because the automation "does not agree" with such an intention of the driver. Also, if the automation breaks down, it will be very expensive to pay for its repair. Lower strength and durability of automatic transmission (compared to manual).
Which is better: automatic transmission or manual transmission? Ladies and drivers who have recently sat behind the wheel, it is better to choose automatic transmission control. This is especially important if they drive through the streets of a big city and often get stuck in traffic jams. Residents of rural areas and reckless men living both in the city and outside the city are better off choosing a more complex manual transmission control.
The reliability of these options is approximately the same. If automation contains many parts that break down relatively often, then most of them, nevertheless, are not subject to rapid wear (with careful driving). Timely oil change and caution during operation are the conditions necessary for the automatic transmission to not fail for a long time. The instructions that came with the car must also be followed regarding the quality of the oil, the conditions for changing it.
As for the mechanical box, despite its great strength, the drive, the disc, basket and clutch lining of the car "burn" even with very careful driving. Usually, without replacing the pads, you can drive no more than eighty thousand kilometers. Each time, switching gears and depressing the clutch in countless changing road conditions, the driver involuntarily creates circumstances favorable for the failure of one or another part of the clutch mechanism. Therefore, it is simply impossible to answer unambiguously the question of which gearbox is better! Choose what you like! But remember: in order for you to have a working automatic transmission, the instructions for its use must be strictly followed!

The automatic transmission device of a car and the principle of operation. Automatic transmission types
Recently, automatic transmissions are gaining more and more popularity. And there are reasons for that. Such a box is easier to operate and does not require constant “play” with the clutch in traffic jams. In large cities, such a checkpoint is far from uncommon. But the automatic transmission device is significantly different from classical mechanics. Many motorists are afraid to take cars with such a box. However, the fears are not justified. With proper operation, an automatic transmission will last no less than mechanics
