During the care of equipment that runs on a two-stroke engine, questions often arise about the correct use of fuels and lubricants, oils, etc. The correct application, selection and principles of using 2T oil will be discussed further.
General characteristics
When a unit is purchased with a two-stroke engine, it is required to provide it with proper care. These units include:
- chainsaw;
- scooter;
- motokosa;
- motorboats;
- other.
This is a technique where high power density and light weight are the main characteristics. Each buyer wants the purchased equipment to serve for many years, not to fail at the right time. But it depends on the correct care of the engine. Therefore, there are 2T-semi-synthetic oils, mineral and synthetic types that have high-class compositions. They are designed for use in two-stroke gasoline engines.
The difference between engines
Two-stroke oil is significantly different from four-stroke formulations. This is explainedfeatures of the structure of mechanisms. A two-stroke gasoline engine does not have the necessary lubrication system. Oil is added to the fuel tank, where it is mixed with gasoline and then fed into the engine. It is characterized by complete smokeless combustion. Due to its chemical composition, the product mixes easily with a combustible mixture.
2T oil is consumed simultaneously with fuel. Although a small part of it is emitted with exhaust gases in the form of oil mist. In older models of such engines, the mixing process is done manually. A dosage of 1:20 to 1:100 is used. Newer units already use automatic dosing technology. Such systems will use up oil depending on the load on the equipment. Thanks to the new systems, oil consumption has also been reduced.
Unlike the previous composition in four-stroke engines, the fuel mass is poured into a separate compartment. This oil contains many additives that improve the physical and mechanical properties of the product. Therefore, it is forbidden to use them in a two-stroke engine. Otherwise, deposits are formed on the working parts, the cylinder-piston group. This leads to breakage, as well as clogging of the unit.
Application
Mostly for conventional two-stroke engines, a carburetor fuel delivery system is used. The simultaneous supply of oil and emptying of the cylinder is the reason that about 30% of the mixture entering the system does not burn out. They are emitted with exhaust gases.
This is a significant disadvantage of a two-stroke engine. Compared to the partial combustion of oil in four-stroke engines, 2T type oil results in significant emissions, smog, and smoke. Basically, such phenomena occur in Asian countries due to the oversaturation of roads with motorcycles with two-stroke engines.
Recently, there have been changes in production technology. These shortcomings have been greatly compensated by some scientific advances in the development of two-stroke engines. The new indirect fuel injection system showed a significant reduction in emissions, reduced fuel consumption.
Two-stroke oil requirements
For durability and good operation of equipment, it is necessary to use higher quality oils. Significant elements that ensure quality are special additive mixtures for 2T oils. They are selected for each type of engine, taking into account the requirements for use.
Similar to four-stroke engine blends, two-stroke oils are formulated with anti-wear additives. Thanks to chemical elements, they protect metal surfaces. Mineral oil 2T has a special type of additives to improve environmental friendliness.
For long-term operation of engines, certain requirements are put forward for oil. They must have:
- lubricating and anti-wear properties;
- cleaning function;
- preventing the formation of pollution in the exhaust system;
- decliningsmoke;
- good consistency for mixing with fuel even at low temperatures;
- high corrosion protection;
- good fluidity;
- strong environmental performance.
In this case, the composition is of high quality. It protects the motor system from adverse factors.
Types and classification
Today, 2T oils are divided according to their purpose. There are compounds that can be applied from low-power lawnmower engines to high-performance motorcycles. They are classified most often according to the API standard. It includes the following classes:
- TA - lubricating oils for small air-cooled engines (mopeds, chainsaws, etc.).
- TB are lubricants recommended for air-cooled engines.
- TC - oils designed for units with high requirements. They use a large amount of lubricant (motorcycles, snowmobiles and other vehicles other than motor boats).
- TD - materials designed for outboard units, water-cooled motor boats.
Since the beginning of 1993, TC and TD APIs have been actively released. At points of sale, 2T oils with the characteristics of the previous types are still found.
After conducting research in service centers in St. Petersburg, experts concluded that in 90% of cases, the failure of the unit is associated with wear of the parts of the central heating system. Lubrication problems are the most common cause of breakdowns. Therefore, it is worth givingconsiderable attention to oil selection.
Producers
Experts note the most popular manufacturers of two-stroke engine oils, which have proven themselves in the market on the positive side due to their quality and reliability. These include Husqvarna, Hitachi, ECHO, ALCO, Stihl. The price of 2T oil (synthetics) is about 300-500 rubles / l. Semi-synthetics cost 250-400 rubles/l, and mineral compositions - 150-250 rubles/l.
After considering the characteristics of oils for two-stroke engines, you can make the right choice of composition for engine maintenance.
