"Patriot" is a medium-sized SUV that has been mass-produced at the UAZ plant since 2005. At that time, the model was quite crude, and therefore every year it was constantly refined. To date, many modifications of this SUV have appeared, including the Patriot (diesel, ZMZ-51432). Remarkably, the first diesel engines were installed with Iveco. However, due to many technical flaws, they were discontinued. At the moment, the main diesel unit for the "Patriot" is precisely ZMZ-51432. Reviews, specifications, as well as a review of UAZ - later in our article.
Interesting facts
It is worth noting that the predecessor of the well-known "Patriot" is the UAZ "Simbir", which had the number index 3162. The car was produced from 2000 to 2005. Interestingly, the "Patriot" was the first car on the UAZ, which began to be equipped with air conditioning, airbags, a multimedia system, ABS and other "benefits of civilization". By the way, it was on the "Patriot" for the first time thata single fuel tank system was used (previously there were two separate ones - not the most thoughtful design).
Design
The appearance of the Ulyanovsk SUV has a dynamic and aggressive silhouette. The car is recognizable from afar by its characteristic chopped shapes and crystal "big-eyed" optics.
Massive wheel arches add brutality to the SUV. No, this is not a crossover, but a real male, frame jeep with all-wheel drive and locks (and not electronic ones, like those of "overseas" competitors). For 2017, the car looks quite decent.
As for the overall dimensions, they practically do not differ from the predecessor "Simbir". So, the length of the SUV UAZ ZMZ-51432 "Patriot" is 4.78 meters, the width is 1.9 meters without mirrors (with them - 21 centimeters more), the height is 2 meters. The ground clearance of the factory "Patriot" is 21 cm. But this is far from the limit. Ready-made suspension lift kits are now on sale. So, 33-inch mud tires are easily placed in the arches. But even with standard clearance and stock wheels, the car behaves well off-road. It is not inferior to the famous "goat" in terms of cross-country ability.
Salon
Let's look inside the Ulyanovsk "Patriot". The interior design deserves attention. Inside there is a modern panel, a center console and a multimedia steering wheel. This has not yet been used on UAZs. In the center is a large multimedia display. However, it is available only in the maximum configuration. Insidechrome and aluminum inserts appeared (more precisely, plastic made “under aluminum”). The car has fairly large mirrors.
Due to the high landing, reviews note good visibility. Mirrors and dashboard are very informative. There is now an armrest between the front seats. By the way, the seats themselves are sheathed in genuine leather. But again, in the basic configuration, it is replaced by fabric. The cabin has single-zone climate control. On the door cards there are convenient power window control buttons (they are here on an electric drive). Well, the Ulyanovsk team did a great job with the design. However, the reviews of the owners note the former hard plastic. Still, soundproofing needs improvement.
Specifications - what came before?
As we noted earlier, the first UAZ diesel modifications were equipped with an IVECO F1A turbodiesel engine. He developed a power of 116 horsepower and gave 270 Nm of torque. Remarkably, the same engine was installed on Fiat Ducato light trucks. But at UAZ, this motor did not take root - either from outdated characteristics, or from poor-quality assembly. The owners spoke rather badly about this motor.
What now?
At the moment, the IVECO F1A engine is not installed on the UAZ Patriot. Instead, the Ulyanovsk plant arranged the supply of the power unit 51432 ZMZ. The engine with a cylinder volume of 2.3 liters develops a power of 114 horsepower. However, unlike Ivekovsky, a more modern injection system is used here. At 51432 ZMZ, Common Rail fuel supply was implemented. This allowed to reduce fuel consumption and increase traction performance.
Diesel ZMZ-51432 has an aluminum block and head, and also has an overhead camshaft. The unit complies with Euro-4 emission standards. The engine uses a timing chain drive. The valves have hydraulic clearance adjusters. The pressure on the nozzles is simply colossal - 1450 bar. Also, a turbine is used on the 51432 ZMZ engine, which makes it possible to obtain a significantly higher efficiency.
How economical?
All motorists know that a diesel engine, whatever it may be, will be an order of magnitude more economical than a gasoline engine. The ZMZ-51432 diesel engine was no exception. Reviews say that in the city fuel consumption is up to 12 liters (although according to passport data, the car fits into the top ten). But still it is much less than that of gasoline. On UMP engines, the Patriot was incredibly voracious. In the city "ate" up to twenty liters of gasoline. As for the 51432 ZMZ unit, its minimum consumption in real conditions is 8.5 liters (on the cruising highway - 80 km / h). Owner reviews say that if efficiency is your priority, you should definitely pay attention to the diesel modification of the Patriot.
How does it ride?
Even before the diesel version entered the market, reviews from motorists noted the poor performance of gasoline engines. And all, even three-liter. The car was clearly missing.power, had to turn it up to four or five thousand. How does a car with a ZMZ-51432 unit behave on the road? "Patriot" is distinguished by more frisky acceleration dynamics. Torque is available almost from the bottom, and at the top - picks up the turbine. The maximum torque is available in the range of two thousand revolutions. If you press the accelerator pedal at this point, you can feel a sharp pickup. However, after 80 cravings disappear. The car accelerates very slowly in the range of 80-100. By the way, the maximum speed of the car is 135 kilometers per hour.
True, this is not at all comfortable for the "Patriot" speed. Firstly, the car is very difficult to gain it. Secondly, hard plastic in the cabin makes itself felt. Plus, the characteristic rumble of a diesel engine, which is difficult to remove even with several layers of sound insulation. Owner reviews say that the car clearly lacks sixth gear. At 90 kilometers per hour, the engine is already gaining 3 thousand revolutions (and for a diesel engine this is a red line). By the way, the gearbox here is used from a gasoline engine (not the most technologically advanced solution). Therefore, it is possible that the UAZ will be further developed.
Diesel off-road
Perhaps this is his main advantage. Unlike gasoline engines, 51432 ZMZ performs better in the absence of roads. Where a large moment was required, this unit, let it be tight, but confidently pulled the car out of the trap. On gasoline engines, I often had to “play” with the clutch, and the traction disappeared very quickly. Off-road diesel -the very thing that is needed, note the reviews of the owners.
Design flaws of the "Patriot"
Drivers attribute the low location of bridges to the negative aspects of the Patriot design.
And if on the 469th the problem was solved by installing military bridges, then such a scheme will not work here. Also on the "Patriot" there was a problem with the doors - the opening angle was too small. This problem, perhaps, has been haunting UAZ since Soviet times, when the same "goat" appeared. Also, the quality of sound insulation has not improved. Already from the moment of purchase, you have to glue the interior yourself.
Prices and specifications
The new UAZ "Partiot" will be available in several trim levels:
- "Standard".
- "Comfort".
- "Privilege".
- "Style".
For the basic one you will have to pay 809 thousand rubles. This includes an airbag, 16-inch stamped wheels, power steering, power windows and ABS. The top equipment is available for 1 million 30 thousand rubles.
This price includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a full audio system with a 7-inch multimedia screen and six speakers, a rear-view camera, an ESP system, front and rear parking sensors, heated seats, climate control and even a heated steering wheel. What can I say, the Patriot has a very good level of equipment. The only issue is the price. After all, there are plenty of good copies on the secondary market for a lower cost.
