Daewoo History

The list of Korean car brands can start with this brand, which is especially loved by women because of the production of compact cars. The story began with a modest motor repair company. A workshop called Shinjin Motors was engaged in GM engines and by the early seventies was able to get the status of a factory. At this point, the purpose of the brand and its name were changed, and the production of South Korean cars began. The name Daewoo is associated with the corporation that bought the stake, formerly engaged in shipbuilding and the production of household appliances. Since the eighties, these Korean cars have been launched on the European market. The brands under which the first model became known are surprising - in some countries it was the Opel Kadett E, in America - PontiacLe Mans, and the Europeans learned about it as the Daewoo Racer. They are all the same car. In the early nineties, Daewoo Nexia was launched, the release of the second generation of which is still ongoing. In addition, the Espero was presented to the public - a model created by the famous design studio Bertone and which has become incredibly popular. The nineties were the time of the South Korean crisis. But today the brand is quite successful and has such famous models as Matiz and Lanos in its assortment.

Hyundai History

Korean cars of the Hyundai brand appeared on the market in 1967. The company began its existence with the release of models for Ford, but soon the production of its own cars was started. The company collaborated with Mitsubishi and Italian design studios, so the very first Pony car turned out to be successful and attractive. In 1975, deliveries, previously planned only for the local market, began to reach South America, the Middle East, and Africa. Ten years later, Korean cars of the Hyundai brand are already known to the whole world, and the company is the leader in the country. Since 1986, cars from the brand have been supplied to the United States market. In the nineties, the company developed its own engines and produced several successful budget cars. The twenty-first century was the time of the release of popular crossovers, the best of which was the Hyundai Solaris.

History of KIA

The whole world loves these reliable Korean cars. The brands we are considering cannotboast such a long history: KIA Motors was founded as early as 1944. However, then it had a different name - KyungSung Precision Industry. In the early years, the company produced parts for bicycles. After the war, as a result of which the country was divided into Southern and Northern parts, the company received a new name, known even now, and started producing two-wheeled vehicles. By 1962, KIA had both a motorcycle and a truck in its range. In ten years, the government will issue a license for the production of cars to the company, and a new page in the history of the brand will begin. The first model was the KIA Brisa, which proved to be extremely successful. To date, the brand is developing steadily, continually releasing new series of cars. Some of the best are Sportage and Clarus II, which is considered the flagship.

SsangYong History

Korean SsangYong cars have been produced since 1967, although the model range remained extremely modest for a long time and was expanded only in 1986, after the acquisition of Keohwa, an SUV company. Already in 1988, the SsangYong Korando appeared, a compact crossover with a powerful diesel engine. This becomes the first step towards success - the company begins cooperation with European brands and in the nineties becomes world famous. At the moment, a controlling stake has been bought out by the Daewoo concern, although their development directions do not coincide.
