Parts of the exhaust system are designed to remove gases from the combustion chamber of the engine. As the harmful agents pass through this "highway", they are cooled and filtered. Thus, less toxic substances that pollute the air enter the environment. In addition, exhaust systems serve to reduce noise in the car (produce this in the muffler).

This product consists of the following parts:

  • heat shield;
  • additional muffler (resonator);
  • metal expansion joint;
  • main muffler;
  • o-ring;
  • clamps;
  • oxygen concentration sensors;
  • seal gasket;
  • rubber pads.

All these parts remove, filter and cool the exhaust gases that come out ofengine cylinders.

The principle of operation and the device of the exhaust system

First, harmful substances from the engine enter the exhaust manifold. At the same time, they pass through the outlet channel. Further, the gases begin to move through all the other details. Through the filtration process, these substances become less toxic, and with each centimeter of the way to the exit, they are cooled to air temperature. And now in more detail about these stages.

After the combustion products have entered the exhaust manifold, they are sent to the exhaust pipe of the additional muffler, and then to the main resonator. Inside both devices there are partitions with many small holes. Gases must pass through them: noisily falling from the cylinders, they pass through these holes, as a result of which their sound wave is greatly weakened.

In order for the exhaust gases to go all this long way, the engine needs to spend about 3-4 percent of its power. And this is provided that all connections of the exhaust system are tight. The elements that provide this are special heat-resistant gaskets. Silencer pipes and other elements are installed between them. All this together makes up the exhaust system.

Catalyst

Unlike domestic cars, absolutely all foreign cars are supplied with an additional element such ascatalyst. Not a single German and Japanese exhaust system can do without this part. Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, Renault, Toyota - all these cars are equipped with a catalyst. So, in this part, harmful substances are neutralized (nitric oxide, carbon and hydrocarbon). For this reason, this mechanism is also called a catalytic afterburner and converter. In it, afterburning of fuel residues that did not burn out in the internal combustion engine cylinders takes place. In addition, harmful substances are filtered in the catalyst. Before they are released, the exhaust systems will trap all toxic substances in the filter.

So, we learned the design of the exhaust system and how it works.
