Recently SUVs are becoming more and more popular along with regular cars. Manufacturers periodically replenish their model line with new copies that have all-terrain capabilities. So the Swedish concern "Skoda" decided to keep up with its competitors.
Skoda Smoov
Previously, the company could only boast of having two vehicles with all-terrain capabilities: its lineup included the Yeti crossover and the Octavia Combi Scout station wagon. The name "Smoove" as a trademark was registered back in 2011, and in 2014 the mid-size SUV "Skoda" under this name went on sale for the first time. By the way, it is built on the same platform as the Audi Ku3 and Nissan Tiguan. Compared to the same "Yeti", the dimensions of the new car are somewhat larger: for example, it reaches 4.5 meters in length against 4.22 meters for the earlier model.
Smoove's main competitors are such cars as Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai. At the same time, "Smoove" was provided with simpler engines: a hybrid power plant is not at all present in the line of units, and other configurations have also been selected. In addition, the emphasis is primarily on the front-wheel drive system, although all-wheel drive is also present, but in higher trim levels. Outwardly, the car is similar to the Nissan Tiguan, and it is equipped with the following engines: two gasoline engines - 1, 4 and 2 liters, as well as diesel engines - 1, 6 and 2 liters. The crossover has a number of distinctive features, such as the presence of a seven-seat interior, large interior space and a presentable, modern look.
Skoda Yeti
And now let's get back to the car that once became the pioneer of the SUV line from the Czech manufacturer. The Yeti model appeared on the European market for the first time in 2009. She very quickly gained popularity among the sophisticated public and was awarded the title of the best family car of the year. Note that in the classical sense, the Yeti cannot be called an SUV; the manufacturer, rather, positions it as a compact crossover. When it was created, they were based on the popular SUV from the Japanese manufacturer Nissan, whose name is Tiguan. Ultimately, it is built on the same platform and has the same engines as this car, but at the same time the price of the Czechrepresentative of the automotive industry on him was lower. No wonder the crossover has gained such recognition from motorists.
Waiting for a new generation
The new generation of "Yeti" will be released in 2018, and it will be radically different from the current generation car. It will grow in size, the appearance promises to acquire more traditional outlines for SUVs, and the crossover will become more spacious, increasing the amount of usable trunk space. It is assumed that the model will also have a hybrid modification. Note that now the Skoda Yeti SUV can be purchased with the following gasoline turbo engines: 1.4 TSI, 1.6 MPI and 1.8 TSI, generating 125, 110 and 152 horsepower, respectively. Both "mechanics" and "automatic" are declared as transmissions. The cost of an SUV starts at 1 million rubles.
New Skoda Snowman SUV
The release of a new SUV from the Czech manufacturer has been postponed more than once, but finally it was officially announced that the premiere of the new Skoda Snowman is expected this fall at the Paris Motor Show. By the way, now his new name has become known, under which he will go into mass production - the Skoda Kodiak SUV. He is being heavily bet on as a representative of the large SUV segment that can adequately compete with the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorrento.
It is known that the new SUVbased on the MQB platform, which is also available in the latest generation Tiguan. This suggests that the car will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. At the same time, it will be equipped with a wide range of power units, with a boost level of 115 hp. up to 240 hp A manual transmission is offered as a transmission, as well as a DSG robot.
When compared with the Yeti, the size of the Skoda Snowman SUV is strikingly different from the legendary crossover. Its length, width and height are respectively 4, 6/1, 8/1, 8 meters. The car has a serious wheelbase equal to 2.77 meters, which allowed the snowman to acquire a spacious interior. At the same time, the SUV will be offered both in five-seater and seven-seater versions. An acceptable ground clearance of 18 cm, together with a good body geometry, allows you to show good off-road capabilities.
Specifications and cost
Top all-wheel drive version with a 220-horsepower two-liter turbo engine running on gasoline. In addition, the new Skoda SUV is equipped with two more options for gasoline engines: with a capacity of 150 and 180 “horses”, and a working volume of 1.4 and 2.0 liters, respectively. The youngest engine is installed on the Skoda Snowman with front-wheel drive. It should be noted that, if necessary, it is possible to deactivate two cylinders, in connection with this, fuel savings will be about 50%.
Except petrolengines, the SUV will also be equipped with diesel engines, namely two engines to choose from, which have a volume of 2 liters with a capacity of 151 and 185 "horses".
As for the cost of this car, it is still difficult to talk about any specific figure. However, based on the information provided by the company's management, the price for it will not exceed 1.5 million rubles (this applies to the front-wheel drive modification).
