List of the best
First of all, you should get acquainted with the famous German company Volkswagen. Deserve attention and luxury Maybach and Mercedes. BMW and Audi have long enjoyed success. The Opel brand is no less popular. The history of each of these firms deserves attention.
Volkswagen
Listing German brands, first of all it is worth mentioning this one, one of the most famous and popular. The history of the concern begins in 1934, when Ferdinand Porsche, a designer and engineer, founded his factory in Wolfsburg. With his help, he intended to create a "people's car" - this is how the name Volkswagen is literally translated, and now we can say with confidence that Ferdinand coped with the task. During World War II, the plant was destroyed, but already in 1945 the British government ordered twenty thousand cars, andwork began again. Twenty-seven years later, the Beetle model broke Ford records and became the best-selling model in the world. To date, this is the most famous German car of the Volkswagen brand, although other developments of the plant - "Transporter" or Golf - are also popular and famous.
Porsche
Few people know that this brand is a German-made car. Nevertheless, behind its creation is the same engineer and designer as in the case of Volkswagen - Ferdinand Porsche. In 1931, he opened an enterprise for the creation of units for automobile companies, without thinking about mass production then. Nevertheless, he soon managed to create a unique racing Type 22, the developments on which became the basis of the legendary Porsche. By 1939, the Type 64 was developed for the Berlin-Rome races. Now only one copy of this car has survived, which is located in the company's museum in Stuttgart. Since 1948, a new page in the history of Porsche began. The 356 model was developed, which captivated fans of fast driving. Some variants of this car can still be found on the road. And this is not surprising: it is believed that Porsche cars are the most reliable. In 1963, the legendary 911 was introduced, which was the final step towards worldwide recognition. An interesting fact is also connected with the cars of the brand: the ignition key is located on the left. This is because this placement allowed the rider to start the car before he even sat in the seat, which was extremely important forcompetitions for which Porsches were originally designed.
Maybach
When talking about luxury cars of German brands, it is impossible not to mention this one. The German engineer Wilhelm Maybach, who is also related to the emergence of Mercedes, became the developer and founder. He created several iconic DMG models that have made the brand a success. In 1907, Maybach left the company due to a conflict with Daimler, who was in charge of production, and began work on his own company, Maybach. Before the start of the First World War, he was engaged in aircraft engines, and then switched to cars and locomotives. In 1926, the first Maybach was created, which captivated buyers with technical excellence and luxury. Few German cars were produced then, taking into account all the wishes of the client. In 1930, the Zeppelin model appeared, the most famous of the era, sold for fabulous prices. In the new millennium, Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 were created, which returned the factory to its former success and became real indicators of status for their owners.
Mercedes
If you ask someone a question about what German car brands he knows, the first answer is likely to be the name of this one. The history of the legendary Mercedes begins in 1900, when Emil Jellinek suggested that the head of DMG name a new car model in honor of his daughter with that name. Since 1902, Mercedes has become a separate brand. The first car was a racing car and brought glory to the production with many victories. The model remained unchanged until the First World War. In 1909, the famous logo with a three-pointed star appeared. It symbolizes the production of engines for airplanes and boats, that is, work with machines on land, in air and on water. After the Second World War, the plant began producing small sedans, and in the fifties, limousines were also produced. Since 1954, the assortment has been replenished with sports coupes. The brand's reputation for luxury has returned, and its success has remained unchanged ever since.
BMW
When mentioning German cars, one should definitely mention BMW, one of the oldest companies. In addition to cars, it produces motorcycles, and previously engaged in aviation. This is hinted at by the logo depicting a propeller against the sky. The founders were Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto. Designers produced aircraft engines that were in high demand during the First World War. In 1917, they switched to motorcycle engines, then developed a complete assembly cycle, and by 1928, the production of small cars began. The Dixi was BMW's first creation, and its economical price ensured excellent sales in Germany. Before the outbreak of World War II, the plant managed to start production of sports cars. In the same period, the concept of a car for the driver arose, which the developers follow to this day. After World War II, BMW engaged in constant modernization and technological improvements, so every decade is associated with a successful and popular model, and today the plant isone of the most famous and sought after not only in Germany, but throughout the world.
Opel
We continue to study German cars. The brands, the list of which allows you to get acquainted with the mechanical engineering of Germany, are also represented by such a brand as Opel. The history of the name is very interesting. On the banks of the Rhine there are lands called Oppel, and the inhabitants of those places are called opels. One of the men there decided to send his son to study, he grew up and became a manufacturer. He took up the production of hats, and his son went to France and saw a sewing machine, which made it possible to establish the production of machines for creating hats in Germany. In 1884, he hit on a new idea and began to assemble bicycles. In 1897, the company mastered the production of cars. The first model was started manually and was not a success. In wartime, the company produced trucks for the army, and from 1923 to 1924, the plant was modernized: the first assembly line in the country appeared. Two-seat cars were born and the brand's path to success began. After the Second World War, Opel also produced racing cars. The popularity of the brand has become stable and has not subsided for decades. In the nineties, SUVs were introduced to the public, and today the range includes many models and allows the brand to be at the top of the lists of the best and most famous.
Audi
Impossible to forget this name when listing German cars. Marks, the list of which is worthy of attention, includes Audi. The company was founded in 1910 by engineer Horch. The name of the company is a translation of the owner's surname into Latin. The four-ring logo symbolizes the merging of four companies - DKW, Audi, Wanderer and Horch - into a single concern. Like other manufacturers, Audi first produced German racing cars. The brands photographed in the competition material since then also included Mercedes and BMW, no wonder this was a real success story. In the post-war years, the company produced budget models, and reached its heyday in the eighties and has not lost ground until now.
