UAZ "Patriot" - diesel or gasoline, speed or traction?

According to Runet, the UAZ "Patriot" SUV was recognized as the best domestic car in 2012. Moreover, both the petrol and diesel versions of the Patriot were among the leaders.

The appearance of the diesel version of the UAZ "Patriot" aroused great interest. Consequently, disputes broke out between adherents of gasoline engines and fans of diesel engines. What to choose? Diesel or gasoline? This is, of course, a personal matter for each owner. The petrol engine is quieter and runs at higher revs. However, a diesel engine is more economical and develops a truly locomotive traction at the bottom. But the design of a diesel engine is more bulky and heavy compared to a gasoline engine, and the revolutions are much lower.

In principle, the ability of the engine to develop high speed amuses only the pride of the owner. In fact, the power unit is evaluated by power and its ability to pull the car. And if you consider that the "Patriot" is not an urban "SUV", and you can drive it even in the absence of roads, then powerful traction in low gears is preferable to it than high speeds. And it depends little on whatstands under the hood: gasoline or diesel. It depends on the correct selection of gear ratios of the transmission in relation to the engine.

In terms of fuel consumption, it is also difficult to say which is better: UAZ "Patriot" diesel or gasoline. Yes, diesel consumes less fuel. But is the overall savings really that significant? "Patriot" with a diesel engine requires an average of 10 liters per 100 km in city driving mode. Petrol version - 13 liters. It would seem that savings on the face. But, in addition to gasoline or diesel fuel, the engine also needs related components. And then it turns out that in a diesel engine, the oil needs to be changed twice as often. And the purchase of good oil also "poured out" in a decent amount. So in this regard, there are no special differences in what configuration UAZ "Patriot" is purchased - diesel or gasoline.

We analyze further. Now consider the cost of spare parts. The diesel version of the Patriot is powered by an Iveco engine. The unit itself is not bad, but spare parts for it are very expensive. This is especially true for high-precision components of the electronic injection system. For example, the cost of a common rail nozzle at Iveco can reach up to 22 thousand rubles. And they "live" a maximum of 300,000 km. The cost of the injection pump is also impressive - about 46,000 rubles. In this case, the scale of "diesel or gasoline" is clearly not in favor of diesel.

So, after all, which version do you prefer? If diesel cars were unprofitable, they woulddid not release. This fully applies to UAZs. The choice of diesel or gasoline will depend more on where the car is supposed to be operated. If a brutal SUV is chosen for self-affirmation and for moving around the city, then the diesel version is more prestigious. If a frame all-terrain vehicle is chosen for adventure, then in this case gasoline is preferable. There will obviously not be savings on fuel here, but on spare parts it will be noticeable.

To buy or not to buy? Diesel or gasoline? Perhaps no expert can give a definite answer. When choosing an SUV, everyone is guided not only by technical parameters, the advice of specialists and "experts", but also by their own preferences.
