SsangYong Rodius - an unusually roomy off-road vehicle

English designer Ken Greenlee, who designed the body of the SsangYong Actyon car, according to many, was under an indelible impression of what the Soviet lunar rover looked like. Rumor has it that when designing an enlarged SsangYong Rodius off-road minivan, he tried to make a yacht in a car wrap. The resulting design resembles a minibus-transformer, in which you can get on the go to the rear fourth row of seats in order to slap the raging children on the back of the head. And outwardly, it looks like a SsangYong Kyron stretched in length, to which a glazed wheelhouse was welded into the rear, sloping from stretching, in order to shoot back from pursuers. Although jokes are jokes, but the car turned out to be roomy, streamlined and standing out from the crowd of brothers.

At the beginning of 2013, a new version of the SsangYong Stavic (this is the name of the Rodius, which is sold in Australia and some other countries) was demonstrated at the Geneva auto show. The 2013 SsangYong Rodius received a more angular but no less streamlined design, similar to classic American family touring vans. The car body is equippedfour rows of seats, which form 7, 9 and even 11 seats for passengers. By simple manipulations with a screwdriver, this can be transformed into three berths or a trunk, with a volume of as much as 3,240 liters.

There are few owners who decide to purchase such a car in Russia and the CIS countries. But these are people with an active lifestyle, and their reviews contain many interesting remarks. Firstly, the owners of the SsangYong Rodius are very impressed with the stability of this car on the road. Even in wet snow and in the presence of snowdrifts, drivers can move confidently and keep the chosen course. Secondly, the increased cross-country ability of the SsangYong Rodius at the level of a high-quality SUV causes satisfaction. The frame structure, low gears and all-wheel drive enable you to feel calm in many critical situations. Thirdly, SsangYong Rodius has a roomy and easily transformable interior, which makes it easy to solve any problems of economic and tourist trips. Fourth, the car has low fuel consumption for a minivan of this magnitude. A diesel car with a 2.7-liter engine on a trip to the Crimea and back from Yekaterinburg (6,600 km) showed an average consumption of 9.6 liters per 100 km.

Of the shortcomings of SsangYong's Rodius, reviews mention a harsh suspension, a “throwing back” (if it is not loaded), “talkative” plastic, especially in the rear of the car. Drivers also complain about weak A-pillars and “pecking” with their noses during a sharpbraking and driving over bumps. Noise isolation of the car is also not up to par, but for long trips it is critical. During the transformation of the interior, to dismantle any chair, it is necessary to unscrew four bolts - and this also does not cause enthusiasm. Drivers complain about poor visibility at the rear, and blind spots in visibility at the front.

However, in general, the SsangYong Rodius is an inexpensive, reliable and very comfortable car for a large family, a friendly company or a small company. Especially it can help out when you like to take a bunch of things on a trip that you will never need.
