"Gazelle" - perhaps the most popular light truck in Russia. Since this machine is constantly under load, it is important to monitor the condition of all components and assemblies. This is especially true for the brake system. Safety depends on her work. From time to time on this car it is necessary to pump the brakes. How to do this, we will consider in our today's article.
When and why should this be done?
On a Gazelle car, this system has a hydraulic drive. This means that a special fluid exerts pressure on the working cylinders. It has special properties and does not boil when compressed. However, the main disadvantage of brake fluid is its hygroscopicity. When the system is depressurized, air and water get inside. Because of this, the liquid loses its properties.
What are the signs to bleed the system? The very behavior of the car will tell about it. If the ped althe brakes on the Gazelle became soft, its stroke increased, the car sluggishly slows down, all this indicates problems with the system. But not always the cause of this is air or water. It happens that the vacuum brake booster on the Gazelle fails. In such a situation, the brake pedal becomes very hard. This can be determined as follows. Before starting the internal combustion engine, the pedal must be pressed several times so that its stroke becomes minimal (remove all the vacuum from the system). Then they start the engine and control the pedal: it should fall a little. If this does not happen, the Gazelle needs to be repaired, namely the replacement of the vacuum booster. Let's also note one more thing. The hand brake on the Gazelle has nothing to do with hydraulics. It is mechanical, with a cable drive, operates separately from the working system.
Brake bleeding is also performed after any repair work related to this system. This may be the replacement of the clutch master cylinder, any hoses and other activities.
Scheme of work, tools and materials
Before you bleed the brakes on the Gazelle, you need to find out the bleeding scheme. The operation is performed from the farthest wheel to the nearest one. Thus, work begins on the right rear wheel, then they move on to the left rear. After that, the air is removed on the right front, and then on the left. In simple words, you need to pump in a Z-shaped pattern.
What tools and materials will we need? First you need to prepare the liquid. The product is poured into the Gazelle"RosDot" fourth grade. You will also need a 10 wrench to unscrew the fitting. A clean rag will also come in handy, since fluid can flow to unnecessary areas (discs, pads). In addition, you should prepare a rubber (can be transparent) hose that will be put on the fitting, as well as a plastic bottle with a volume of about a liter.
So, we need to get close to the back of the "spark" and find a fitting for air outlet. We do not unscrew it yet, but only put on a hose, which will be lowered into the bottle with the second end. If there is dirt on the fitting, it must first be removed by cleaning the area with a metal brush. Also add liquid to the tank to the maximum level.
After that, we need an assistant who will, on command, press the brake pedal and hold it. This is necessary in order to build up pressure in the system. Otherwise, the fluid will not leave the system. The assistant should press the pedal about five times with an interval of one second. Then you need to keep the pedal. And at this time, we carefully unscrew the fitting half a turn. If the hose is transparent, we will see how the liquid with air bubbles came out of the system.
After the liquid has stopped flowing, the fitting is tightened. We need to repressurize the system. The assistant presses the pedal five times and holds it. Next, the screw is unscrewed. If the operation is performed several times in a row, you need to add brake fluid. It should not fall below the minimum level. When out of the loopa clear liquid has gone, without bubbles, you can tighten the fitting and remove the hose.
After that, move on to the adjacent rear wheel. How to pump the brakes on the Gazelle? They operate in the same way. First, the fitting is cleaned of dirt, then a hose is installed. Top up the liquid in the tank if necessary. An assistant pressurizes the system. Then we unscrew the fitting and control the condition of the liquid. If the hose is black and it is not possible to check for bubbles, this can be noticed by ear. When unscrewing, there will be a characteristic noise - air with liquid under pressure comes out. If no noise occurs during the subsequent unscrewing, then the air has already been removed in this circuit.
How to bleed the brakes on the Gazelle in front? Here the work is done in a similar way. In order not to lie under the car, you can unscrew the wheel by jacking the Gazelle by the spring (the jack is placed closer to the beam). The sequence of work is the same. First, they clean the fitting, put on the hose, add liquid, and create pressure. After that, carefully unscrew the fitting and watch how the air comes out.
If repairs were made to the brake of one wheel, then pumping the brakes is required only on this wheel. Air must be removed completely. If it remains in the system, this will be indicated by a soft, failing brake pedal. It is advisable to work with the liquid with rubber gloves, as it is toxic.
How often to upgrade?
There is no definite regulation here. pumpthe system is needed only after the appearance of characteristic signs. Air is also removed when repairing any parts of the brake system. However, if the pads are replaced, it is not necessary to bleed the system. It is enough to check the liquid level and add it, since when the working piston is squeezed, it can pour through the top.
