Requirements for modern glass

In addition to its direct function - protecting the driver from wind and rain - all modern types of glass provide a good view of the road not only in the daytime, but also at night. In addition, this element of the car must be resistant to mechanical damage, namely: to be rigid and durable. But, unfortunately, not all automakers adhere to these strict criteria.

Types of glasses. Classification

Today, there are several types of glass. They can be divided according to the place of application: windshield, rear view element, side windows. In addition, they are distinguished by manufacturing methods, which we will discuss below.

Stalinite

This glass is single layer. After the stalinite takes on a certain shape, it is subjected to special hardening at the factory, which gives the product a high level of strength (but not as high as that of the triplex, which will be discussed below). This type of glass has been made for several decades, but recently not a single modern car is equipped with stalinite. The main disadvantage of this type of glass is that when the slightest pebble hits, the glass surface starts to crack, and in a matter of seconds all the fragments fall into the passenger compartment and, of course, onto the driver.

Triplex

This glass is laminated. The main feature of the triplex is that it consists of two layers, between which there is a special thin film. It should be noted right away that the film does not impair visibility in any way - it is not even visible to the human eye. Due to their special design, these types of glass provide an increased level of safety for those inside the vehicle. A thin film prevents the glass from deforming, and all small fragments do not scatter around the cabin upon impact, but stay inside the glass. At first, foreign automakers began to use triplex, but soon the domestic Volga Automobile Plant also picked up the "fashion" for it.

Types of glass tinting

Glasses are also distinguished by color: they are both colorless and tinted. Tinting is more of a tuning element than a vital necessity, so it is producednot all car enthusiasts.

Which kind is best?

At the moment, all modern cars, including domestic ones, are equipped with the most reliable and safe glass - triplex. This trend has been observed over the past twenty years. According to the results of research, this type of product is superior to stalinite in all indicators of quality and safety. Therefore, these types of glass are used not only in passenger cars, but also in special equipment.
