Diagnostic card is an A4 form with a table containing the results of a technical inspection of a car. It contains 65 items in total. During this check of the machine, all its indicators and systems related to the safe operation of the vehicle are analyzed. There is no single type of car diagnostic card, but its content is regulated by law. Its validity period varies depending on the mode of transport:

• for passenger cars, it's six months;
• for vehicles less than seven years old, this is two years;
• for all other cars - one year.

Here, to obtain an insurance policy, the factory passport of the car is enough. The same rule applies to vehicles that are less than three years old. However, the rule does not apply to a vehicle carrying passengers.

You can make a diagnostic card for a used car at any service station. Their list is on the official website of the RSA. You can get the same information at the traffic police departments. Vehicle systems are diagnosed in half an hour with the help of experienced auto repairmen and computer equipment. Usually in the service station there is the possibility of issuing OSAGO policies. It’s better to get a card ahead of time so that when the insurance expires, you don’t have to solve all these issues in the same period (alas, queues greatly slow down the process of obtaining thesedocuments).

Checking the authenticity of the card is very simple, this can be done by an employee of the state traffic inspectorate using the registration plate of the car and VIN through the EAISTO database.

Passing inspection without showing the car

Some inspection points provide the service of passing inspection without showing the car. This is a completely legal procedure, it is not a scam. In order to get a card in this case, you need to present all the data about the vehicle to the service station specialists. This is the brand of the car, its year of manufacture, mileage, etc. It is also necessary to present all documents for the vehicle. This service will cost one and a half to two times more than usual, but it takes much less time. Now it is popular with car owners. However, if an accident happens to you, it is better not to inform the traffic police that you have used it. Which service stations are eligible to issue a diagnostic card?

First of all, find out if the service station is a certified service center, whether the organization has concluded an agreement with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and is certified by the Russian Union of Motor Insurers. Then you need to find out if the type of your vehicle is included in the permit of the station to carry out inspection, and whether a vehicle diagnostic card can be obtained. The operator must have all the necessary technical support in order to transfer data on vehicle diagnostics to a single database: licensed software, a contract for the provision of technical services, the necessary equipment.

If there is no policy and diagnostic card

Sometimes there are situations when the car owner does not have a car diagnostic card or a policy. They won't give you new insurance without diagnostics, but you need to get to the service point! Calling a tow truck for someone can be too expensive a solution to the problem. Then you can apply to the insurance company for a special transit policy. Its action is limited to twenty days, and this should be enough to pass the inspection at the service station and get a card.
