Mercedes-Benz GLS is a new, large and luxurious SUV that the Stuttgart carmaker declassified at the end of last autumn. In November 2015, it became known that the production of this novelty would soon be launched. So, how will the Germans please their admirers once again?

Mercedes-Benz GLS, as the manufacturers themselves say, is a real S-class among SUVs. And it's hard to disagree with that! After all, it looks really luxurious and rich. However, more on that later.

The model has similarities with the popular second generation GL-class. But the novelty is distinguished by a fresher exterior, improved interior, powerful engines and new gearboxes. In addition, the GLS has a significantly expanded list of equipment.

Many are interested in the price of this machine. It is also worth talking about her right away. €62,850 is the price of the standard model in Germany. The top version will cost about 81,600. Appearance

Mercedes-Benz GLS is an elegant and powerful SUV with a very impressive front end, equipped with a massive grille and LEDs. An impressive "muscular" silhouette will delight almost any connoisseur of crossovers. Overall wheel arches and a large glass area, large feed, complemented by exquisite optics and trapezoidal exhaust pipes, are striking. All this creates a unique, unique image of an off-road German car.

If we talk about the size, then we can say with confidence that this car is a real giant. In length - 5130 mm, in width - almost two meters (1934 mm), and in height - 1850 mm. The ground clearance is adjustable, and this is good news. The minimum is 215 mm, the maximum is 306. You can drive such a car even in very deep pits and potholes. By the way, the car is not easy. The maximum load is more than 3.2 tons. And the base weight is not so big - only 2435 kg.

Interior

A few words need to be said about the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Well, inside everything is in the best “Mercedes” traditions – luxurious, rich and comfortable. High-quality finishing materials, balanced ergonomics, excellent build quality.

The first thing that catches your eye is the multifunctional stylish steering wheel, which is distinguished by a pronounced relief, as well asseveral "wells". Three people can comfortably fit in the middle row. And there will be enough space everywhere - both at the feet and above the head. And in the back row there is also enough space for adults and tall passengers. The trunk can fit 300 liters. But if you fold the back row, the volume will increase to 2300 liters. Characteristics of the base model

Now it is worth saying a few words about this. Mercedes-Benz GLS is available in three versions. Each of them has a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The distributing torque along the axes is exactly 50 x 50. The car is distinguished by a transfer case with a locking differential, as well as a lowering row.

So, under the hood of the standard modification is a diesel V-shaped 6-cylinder engine, the volume of which is three liters. It is equipped with a turbocharged supercharger, as well as an injection system.common rail. The unit produces 258 “horses”. The new SUV is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds. And its maximum is 222 km / h. I am very pleased with the consumption - 7.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle.

More powerful versions

The new Mercedes-Benz GLS has two more modifications, as mentioned above. The second option is the GLS400 4Matic. Under the hood of this model is a 3-liter engine with a start / stop system and direct fuel injection. It is also equipped with a pair of turbochargers. Produces a V-shaped "six" 333 horsepower. The speed limit is 240 km / h, and the model accelerates to hundreds in 6.6 seconds. According to the passport, the consumption for every 100 km is 9.4 liters of fuel in mixed mode.

And the most powerful version that the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class boasts is the 500 4Matic. Under the hood of this modification is a V-shaped “eight”, the volume of which is 4.7 liters. The engine is equipped with two turbocharged compressors, a direct injection system and the notorious Start/Stop system. And the power of this unit is 456 hp. The speedometer needle reaches 100 km / h after only 5.3 seconds after the start of movement. And the speed limit is 250 km/h. Consumption, of course, is greater than that of all previous versions - about 11.3 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

AMG version

The last thing worth talking about. Mercedes-Benz GLS AMG is the most powerful and fastest version of the novelty. It has a different exterior -a modified bumper with three massive air intakes make this clear. At the bottom of it you can see a very neat splitter. The tuning studio specialists decided to increase the radiator grille. The emblem, accordingly, also “grew up”. The exhaust pipes are also decorated differently.

What are the characteristics? Under the hood of this SUV is an 8-cylinder unit that produces as much as 580 horsepower. Moreover, the motor has become much more economical than its predecessor. And, of course, he passed all the tests for compliance with environmental standards Euro-6.

This car is equipped with a 7-speed “automatic” from AMG. This is two steps less than the standard version of the novelty. However, gear shifts are faster.

Salon, of course, also changed. The sharp corners were smoothed out by the specialists of the studio, and a wider multimedia display was installed above the center console. Plus, there will be several finishes to choose from. This version, if translated into rubles, will cost approximately 8,700,000 rubles.

So far, it is difficult to talk about reviews, since few people in Russia managed to become owners of this model. Some modifications will become available for purchase only in the summer. However, those people who have already purchased a new product are happy to say that the car is worth the money. And the pleasure you get while driving is invaluable.
