"Subaru R2": specifications and description of a miniature Japanese hatchback

It is almost impossible to meet Subaru R2 on Russian roads. This compact 5-door hatchback was only sold in the Japanese domestic market. When creating the image of the Subaru R2, the design team, led by the Greek specialist Andreas Zapatinas, was guided by the appearance of the R-2 model, produced in 1969.

Specifications

Subaru R2 has good performance. Under the hood of this miniature car, a 0.7-liter EN-07 power unit with gasoline distribution injection was installed. He had three modifications: L, R and S.

The L engine had 1 distribution shaft, it produced 46 horsepower. The R engine had two camshafts, the power was 54 hp. Motor S was consideredthe best, as it was equipped with a turbocharger, produced 64 hp

Models with the first two engines were offered with an I-CVT stepless variator. A 7-speed "automatic" with a manual shift function was installed on a car with an S modification unit.

But that's not all there is to tell about Subaru R2. The technical characteristics of this compact car are good, thanks to them the model could boast of excellent dynamics. The car accelerated to a maximum of 130 km / h, and for a city-format car, this is really not bad. By the way, all engines had a moderate appetite, even the most powerful 64-horsepower took only 7 liters per 100 kilometers around the city.

Finally, it is worth saying a few words about the reviews Subaru R2 receives. Of the greatest interest, of course, are the comments of a few Russian owners.

People who own this machine are happy to share their impressions. The suspension deserves special attention, which works excellently on a good road. However, it is designed to ride on a quality canvas. Off-road is best avoided or run at minimum speed.

The engine, despite the volume, the owners call frisky. But it is not recommended to spin it more than 7000 revolutions, since itthe noise of the operating unit begins to penetrate. The most comfortable speed for this car is about 120 km/h. The dynamics are decent, the handling is excellent, as is the comfort.

Overall, the Subaru R2 is a really good car, but with one drawback, which is that the model can only be bought in Japan.
