4WD vehicles – more comfort or more consumption?

4WD vehicles are, first of all, confidence, comfort and… increased fuel consumption. So it is, you have to pay for everything, and for the conditions of off-road traffic, the owners are forced to overpay for each kilometer.

So is the game worth the candle, especially given the fact that most 4x4 vehicles spend most of their time on city roads anyway? And what is the right thing to do: save money or not deny yourself additional comfort? There is an intermediate option, we have compiled a rating that presents four-wheel drive vehicles with the lowest fuel consumption.

"Audi TT"

Coupe/Roadster made it to our ranking thanks to the "Audi Quattro" all-wheel drive system. The power of the two-liter turbocharged engine is 211 hp, and acceleration to the standard hundred takes about 5.6 seconds. Relative efficiency (slightly more than 10 l/100 km in urban conditions and 7.5 l/100 km on the highway) is due to the use of a layered fuel injection system.

"Subaru Outback"

The model is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine (2.5 liters), and its consumptionfuel - 9.8/8 liters per standard 100 km - a good indicator for a car that claims to be an SUV. In addition, these four-wheel drive vehicles (prices for "Outback" start at 40 thousand USD) can run on fuel with a regular octane rating, which also allows you to save a certain extent.

"BMW 528"

The four-cylinder turbocharged BMW engine produces 240 hp, yet the fuel consumption figures for such power are quite modest - 10.5/7.5 liters per 100 km. German designers did their best to ensure that such a power unit, together with an 8-speed transmission, showed a relatively economical consumption, but do not forget that we are talking only about the highest quality fuel here. "BMW 528" - a classic representative of the category "all-wheel drive cars.

Nissan Juke"

The bizarre crossover has one of the most modest engines in our ranking (1.6 liters), however, it accelerates to the usual hundreds in 8 seconds. Economy figures (9, 4/8) are achieved primarily due to the installation of the "xtronic CVT Juke" gearbox. In combined mode, the car consumes less than 9 liters.

"Lexus RX450"

Besides the fact that this crossover is one of the most popular in the class, it is also economical. 3.5-liter power unit consumes an average of no more than 8 litersfuel per 100 km. Agree, an impressive figure for a car of this class. The stumbling block is that the use of the latest technology cannot be cheap, so the price of cars can still reach 50 thousand dollars.

"Subaru Impreza"

Another bright representative of the 4WD category. Not the most powerful car (148 hp) on our list, but hardly anyone will doubt its sporting characteristics. Even with all-wheel drive, the car consumes less than 9 liters of fuel in the city and less than 7 liters when driving on the autobahn.

As you can see, four-wheel drive vehicles can be economical. Another thing is that almost all of them are "branded", which means that by default they have a rather high cost.
