Peugeot 1007 is an unusual city car of the French company, which has a very compact size, but a high one-volume minivan body, sliding side doors, as well as good comfort for its small class.
The formation and development of Peugeot
The Peugeot company was organized in the middle of the 19th century by the French Peugeot family. In 1858, the company's trademark in the form of a lion was patented. The first steam-powered car, created by the company in 1889, turned out to be unsuccessful. He had a lot of weight and a weak capricious power unit. The acquisition of a license for gasoline engines by the German engineer Daimler made it possible to start production of the first commercial Peugeot cars, which were manufactured in 1892 in the amount of 20 pieces. The French company manufactured the first own engines in 1896.
Until the mid-40s of the last century, the company specialized in the production of inexpensive cars, new compact Peugeot cars came out almost every year. In the 50s and 60s, the company, thanks to its specialization in the production of compact cars, increased its production bygreat demand for such models. An important stage in the development is 1974, the company merges with another French automaker, Citroen. Such a merger made it possible to combine the potential of the companies, as well as to open new assembly plants of the joint company in various countries, increasing the number of cars produced. Peugeot is currently the second European car manufacturer, including the leader in the production of light and medium-duty commercial vehicles.

Creating the Peugeot 1007
The French company began developing the compact city car Peugeot 1007 in 2000, and the first prototype of the future novelty was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2002. The small car was originally created for operation in cramped urban conditions. Therefore, one of the interesting design solutions was the use of sliding side doors with an electromechanical drive. Such a device provided convenient entry and exit from the car in close urban areas, and also facilitated parking, as the doors did not go beyond the width of the side mirrors.
The subcompact three-door hatchback had front-wheel drive and a front-engine layout. For equipment, a gasoline engine with a capacity of 54 liters was used. With. and a diesel engine of 50 forces. Also, based on the base model, a special version was developed with a power unit with a capacity of 140 hp. s.
Exterior description
Unusual appearance forms for the Peugeo 1007 body type, made in the form of a one-volume hatchback. The design is reminiscent of the company's 807 minivan, with the center section removed. The front part of the small car received a corporate design with angular head optics, a large radiator grille, and a narrow additional air intake. In addition to this, there was a special protective bar, which was also used on the doors and rear bumper. This simple device was designedto protect the body from damage in the event of contact parking.
A certain dynamics of the image of the car was created by a large slope of the windshield, continued by the hood, top rails, 18-inch wheels. At the rear of the subcompact, an upper spoiler with an additional brake light, a wide light lining between the large rear window and the luggage compartment lid panel, and enlarged combination lights looked interesting.
Such a non-standard image of a compact small car, which was noted in the descriptions of the Peugeot 1007 by the owners, made the car interesting and recognizable.
Interior description
Despite its small size, the ergonomics of the cabin turned out to be very successful. First of all, this applied to the convenient location of the instrument panel, the multifunctional steering wheel, a wide panoramic rear-view mirror, and power accessories. The front seats offered a high seating position and good visibility, as well as several customization options.
Three passengers felt quite comfortable due to the special design of the seats. The rear seats could move forward and backward around the cabin in increments of up to 25 cm, and also had the ability to fold. This, depending on the purpose of the trip, allowed either to increase the volume of the luggage compartment, or to add space for the rear passengers. In addition, many different niches, compartments and pockets for various things were provided inside the Peugeot 1007.
Another feature of the car was the ability for the owner to form an individu althe interior of his Peugeot 1007 by changing the soft trim panels of various colors, which were attached to the interior with zippers and Velcro. Depending on the versions of the compact car, the number of options could reach up to nineteen.
Design features
The technical base of the Peugeot 1007 was based on the Citroen C2 small car model, with which it shares a common platform, chassis and transmission. In order to give the subcompact car an exclusivity and individuality, the company's designers decided to use an unusual body and sliding side doors. If the use of a volumetric body became an advantage of a small car, then the electromechanical door drive had a complex device and, as a result, high cost. An impressive doorway of almost 95 cm allowed for convenient boarding and disembarking from a small car, but the mechanism often failed. The main reasons were considered to be a malfunction of the controllers, contamination of the guides and a broken servo. Also, it took at least 10 seconds to completely open (close) the door, which, in bad weather, rain or snow, led to precipitation on the passenger seats.
Despite its compact size, the runabout was highly secure. On tests in 2005, the car received five stars according to the EuroNCAP classification.

Reviews about the small car
Peugeot 1007 owners in their reviews describe the following main advantages of a subcompact car:
- recognizable external image;
- maneuverability and controllability;
- sliding automatic doors;
- good review;
- comfortable interior (for its class) with the possibility of various layouts;
- economical operation;
- general reliability;
- balanced suspension;
- rich equipment, among which are: parking sensors, climate control, panoramic glass roof, multifunctional steering wheel.
The main disadvantage is the high cost of the car, which started at $19.5 thousand. Therefore, buyers for this amount preferred compact cars of higher classes.
The high price of the subcompact urban Peugeot 1007, along with limited operating capabilities and, as a result, low consumer demand, served as the basis for the termination of sales in the domestic market, and in 2009 for a complete stop in the production of a small car.
