Making a direct-flow muffler with your own hands is a simple and interesting task. Since the entire exhaust system of the motorcycle is in plain sight, it is not difficult to make it a decoration of the bike.

Muffler material

Before you decide to create your own cross-flow masterpiece on a motorcycle, you can familiarize yourself with ready-made mufflers available for sale. There are models on the market in various materials:

1. Titanium is one of the best. Light, beautiful and almost do not heat up.
2. Aluminum - perhaps the lightest, but get very hot when working.
3. Carbon fiber - beautiful, light and do not heat up, but very fragile.
4. Steel - reliable and strong, but very heavy and hot.

Of course, and the price is different. You can find a suitable one, given the size of the motorcycle, or you can choose the muffler that is recommended by the manufacturer. Installing a ready-made forward flow on a motorcycle will take much less time. But if you still want to make it yourself, then you should be patient.

Production of a direct-flow muffler

In order not to disturbengine operation and prevent the motorcycle from catching fire, before we start making a forward flow to the motorcycle with our own hands, we will take measurements from the bike and draw up a drawing:

1. Let's arm ourselves with a tape measure and measure the distance from the connection of the muffler and the engine to the footrest. Then from the stand to the end of the motorcycle. Thus, the required length of the pipe is taken into account, taking into account its bending. If there are mufflers on both sides, then we measure the second side according to the same principle.
2. Be sure to draw diagrams of the future design for each side separately, note the number of connections and the bending radius (if any).
3. We take the pipe 50-60 cm longer than necessary (we take into account the bend and possible errors). As a rule, a stainless steel pipe with a diameter of 10 mm is used.
4. With the help of a pipe bender, we give the necessary form of forward flow on a motorcycle. Trying on a bike. It must fully correspond to the measurements.
5. For the "stuffing" you can take a thin metal sheet and drill many holes in it with a diameter of at least 5 mm, then roll it into a tube. It is more convenient to use a metal mesh.
6. The grid (or sheet with holes) is placed inside the steel pipe.
7. Between the walls of the inner tube and the outer we hammer glass wool. You can first wrap the inner tube with glass wool, and then place it in the outer one.
8. We connect this whole structure with threaded hooks. Unlike riveting, the fastening is not visible from the outside.
9. Fixed with flame retardant sealant.

The forward flow to the motorcycle is ready. Now you can install it.

Care and care

The main problem with the forward flow of mufflers on a motorcycle is soot that collects inside and settles on the walls. The more it accumulates, the more it interferes with the exit of exhaust gases, and, accordingly, the engine works harder.

The second problem is the burning of the material (eg glass wool) inside the muffler. This becomes noticeable when the tone of the exhaust sound changes.

So that these problems do not interfere with enjoying riding your favorite bike, you need to periodically look into the muffler and clean it, change the filler.

How to make a muffler quieter

As a rule, the motorcycle owner will do everything to be heard. There are a lot of tips on how to make the roar of the motor unforgettably loud. But what if, on the contrary, you want to get rid of the "wild roar"? Here are some tips:

1. Install another muffler provided by the manufacturer.
2. Replace muffler filling with sound deadening material.
3. Instead of the factory, put a two-chamber full-size muffler.
4. If the loud sound is due to wear on the inner tube, it should be replaced.
5. Mount the resonator. In the resonator chamber, the sound is dampened before it enters the muffler can.
6. Use additional resonating tips.
7. Acoustic tape might help. It is used both outside and inside the muffler, as well as around pipes. It reduces vibration and decibel levels.
8. Install the catalytic converter. In general, it is designed to reduce the proportion of harmful substances in exhaust gases, but also does a good job of soundproofing and vibration.
