Lada Silhouette - the car of the future

For a long time, AvtoVAZ assembled cars of the usual model range, the conveyor has already been worn out from Zhiguli to Samara. It was not yet stagnation, but the routine in production was definitely outlined. And suddenly a breakthrough, a new big project. The multi-thousand team of the auto giant perked up, the engineers uncovered the drawing boards, and the financiers prepared for large cash inflows. Indeed, the process has begun. A conceptual car of a fundamentally new design was created, not even a modification of previous models, but a new word in automotive production.

Only the layout of the concept was ready for the summer motor show of 2004, it was called Lada Silhouette. And the first car of the project was assembled a year later, the copy was an exhibition one and was not even rolled on the factory track. Experimental samples left the assembly line only in 2006, but even then there was a variety of bodies and prototypes of the new car.

The first series of Lada Silhouette consisted of 23 body variants and 18 prototypes. The exterior and interior have not yet been worked out. However, at the 2006 Moscow Motor Show, the concept was unveiled to showcase the platform, running gear developments, and an all-new front end.pendants.

However, already in the next year, 2007, Lada Silhouette had a completely finished exterior and its own interior, quite interesting in terms of design solutions. The work on the aerodynamics of the car was completed, the results were encouraging. The Silhouette was the first VAZ development to use a double-flow muffler. At the same time, a new type of radiator with upcoming chambers was created, which has never been on any VAZ car. It was immediately decided to develop a sedan, station wagon and hatchback. Moreover, the hatchback quickly stepped forward and soon its presentation took place. The sedan and station wagon lagged a little, but also developed without delay.

The power plant for all cars Silhouette Lada 2116 is a promising P4 engine with a rotation of 6000 rpm, a power of 112 l / s. The speed on the highway is about two hundred km / h. The car will eventually receive a diesel engine, since the operation of the Silhouette is expected in various regions of Russia. Therefore, the attention of designers does not bypass the operational nature of the new car. The brake system Lada Silhouette is dual-circuit with hydraulic booster, disc brakes with ventilation on all wheels. Replacing brake pads requires a special tool and can only be done in a technical center.

The wheel tires recommended for use are 195/65R15 and 205/55R16, normal pressure, 1.7 - 1.8 atmospheres. The gearbox is still mechanical, with 5 speeds, but in the future there will be an automatic transmission.

Although the car has five seats, the interior is very spacious, the seats are ergonomic and rational in design, they fold out and assemble in a second. Winter conditions are not terrible for the Silhouette, the heating is efficient, it starts up well on the “cold”, there is defrosting of the windows. Production of the machine in large series will begin in the next couple of years. And Lada Silhouette, the price of which promises to be quite affordable, will be on a par with the best cars of our time.
