Kurganets (BMP) is the future of Russian infantry. The technique is a universal tracked platform designed by engineers of the Russian concern Tractor Plants. Prototypes for testing were released in 2015, and mass production is scheduled to begin in 2017. The models will have to replace the BMPs in service with the Russian army.
Design
When designing the infantry fighting vehicle (BMP) "Kurganets-25", engineers focused on creating a modular design, which will facilitate the future repair, modernization and re-equipment of equipment. The armored personnel carrier itself is a unified tracked platform - it is planned to create several variants of military vehicles on its basis:
- Airborne Fighting Vehicle (BMD).
- Crawler armored personnel carrier (GABTU).
- Self-propelled artillery installation (ACS).
The engine is located at the front and is slightly offset to the right. Here is locatedtransmission. This arrangement of the engine compartment allows you to create an improved layout of the machine, which made it possible to place 8 troops inside. Their disembarkation is carried out through a ramp in the back with an additional door.
"Kurganets" (BMP) is controlled by three crew members. Soldiers are protected by a passive armor system together with an active protection module installed on the turret, and to increase security inside, ammunition and weapons are placed in a compartment isolated from passengers.
Good cross-country ability of vehicles is provided by a hydropneumatic suspension system with the ability to adjust ground clearance.
Armaments
Depending on the type of combat vehicle, the main armament of the vehicle is formed. So, self-propelled guns based on the described equipment are equipped with an anti-tank gun (125 mm). But to equip other armored personnel carriers - the BMP "Kurganets-25" and the BMP "Boomerang" - the combat module for the radio control of the BM "Boomerang" is used. It includes a 30 mm automatic cannon with selective power based on two boxes, a machine gun (7.62 mm) and two double mounts of the Kornet anti-tank missile system.
A feature of the combat module is the ability to control it with the help of computerized electric motors. Such an opportunity exists for the commander of the vehicle and the gunner. Moreover, the complex is capable of independently monitoring the target indicated by the crew member, firing until the enemy is completely destroyed. Forexpansion of the view "Kurganets" (BMP) is equipped with outdoor surveillance cameras. Troopers can also fire to kill through a viewing slot in the rear door of the vehicle.
Prospects for the Russian army
Along with the development of the machine "Kurganets" (BMP), the design of the new BMP "Knight" is underway. It is being created on the basis of the MT-LB, the lightly armored multi-purpose transporter Arktika, which has served as the main military equipment in the polar regions of our country since the middle of the 20th century.
Many believe that "Kurganets-25" and promising BMP "Knight" are similar. In fact, they have many differences. The first is the type of engine used. It is planned to install a diesel gas turbine power plant on the Knight, which proved to be excellent in low temperature conditions. The second is in the design. Reportedly, the latest model will have two links - the tractor itself and the "trailer", equipped with various weapons.
The vehicle will be maximally adapted to perform combat missions. Massive armor reinforced with an anti-mine protection system, as well as an on-board information and control system, is capable of protecting crew members.
Updating the military fleet: T-14 "Armata"
The Government of the Russian Federation has adopted a decision, which has already entered into force, to upgrade the fleet of military vehicles of the army. We can say that the task began to be implemented in 2015, when the modern combat heavy tank "Armata" was presented in May.
Armata and Kurganets-25 aremodern Russian developments. Despite the fact that BMP and TT cannot be compared categorically, there is a certain connection between them, which consists in the use of the BM-Boomerang combat module by both machines. Thanks to the same complex, it was possible to create an "uninhabited tower" - the guidance of combat weapons is carried out remotely and can be carried out automatically.
T-15 Barberry
The new Russian infantry fighting vehicle "Kurganets-25" does not promise to become an exceptional infantry vehicle in the Russian army. Its "rival" in this field is the BMP "Barberry", which is the world's first heavily armored ground forces transporter. "Barberry" was created on the basis of the tracked platform "Armata" and was presented all in the same 2015 at the Victory Parade.
Combined protection of equipment ensures the safety of the landing force and crew not only from bullets, shrapnel, but also from tank shells. Another feature is the 4-launch rocket block, which can release projectiles with a delay much less than the period of active protection of enemy vehicles, thereby ensuring 100% target destruction.
BMP "Boomerang"
In 2015 (the same year the first prototype of the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle was shown), along with a tank based on the unified heavy tracked platform Armata, the Boomerang combat vehicle was presented to the public at the victory parade. Its main difference is the use of conventional wheelsets, and not a caterpillar mover.
Wheeled platform can be equipped with a variety of means of firing. But the main armament is represented by the already familiar Boomerang robotic module. The layout of the equipment is distinguished by the front engine, which allows you to land troops from the stern. The patency of the machine is provided by a four-stroke diesel power plant with a capacity of 510 horsepower.
These are just some of the representatives of modern combat vehicles of the Russian army. Pilot operation of the presented equipment began in 2015. Serial production is expected to begin in 2016-2017. This only means that in the foreseeable future we are expecting a complete renewal of the military-technical park, which will include both the Kurganets-25, the best infantry fighting vehicle in the world, and equipment based on Armata and Boomerang.
