Modern cars require more and more advanced engines. This applies to power, economy, dynamic performance and compliance with environmental standards. Developers are constantly improving the capabilities of modern internal combustion engines. Other energy sources are being used (hydrogen and gas engines), new types of cars are being created (electric cars), but there are unusual uses for the good old ICE. One of them is the hybrid engine.
Conventional internal combustion engine is a source of air and environmental pollution. The electric motor is deprived of many of its shortcomings (but it has its own). A car with a conventional engine is able to drive 500-600 km on one gas station, an electric car - 100-150 km on a fully charged battery. One of the attempts to solve this contradiction is the creation of a new type of power unit, the so-called hybrid engine. To understand what a hybrid engine is, you just need to imagine the joint work of an electric and gasoline (diesel) engines. The internal combustion engine drives a generator that produceselectricity, and the electric motor drives the vehicle.
This is only a description of the principle behind the hybrid engine. The specific implementation of the idea of such an engine can be quite diverse. It can be noted that there are three different versions of such a power unit:
-full;
-moderate;
-"plug-in".
The so-called moderate engines mainly use the work of the internal combustion engine, i.e. a conventional engine runs in a car, and if necessary, an electric one is connected to it. This is extremely convenient, it allows you to smooth out peaks in the load on the internal combustion engine and provide it with the most favorable working conditions. A full hybrid engine in a car uses only electricity for movement, here the previously described principle is implemented in its purest form - the joint operation of two different engines. And finally, the plug-in hybrid allows the batteries it uses to be charged from the mains.
The topic of a separate conversation may be the process of interaction between electric and gasoline engines in the process. Suffice it to mention that such interaction can be implemented in parallel, in series and in series-parallel. Each of the above methods has advantages and disadvantages, so the choice of interaction option depends on the conditions for using the engine on a particular vehicle.
Currently, there are mass-producedvehicles with a hybrid engine, such as "Toyota Prius". There are cars with similar powertrains from other automakers. Such cars are most popular in North America, less in demand in Europe. Perhaps hybrid cars will appear in Russia in the near future (serial production of a Russian hybrid car will begin - it will become a Yo-mobile). Its presentation has already taken place, so those who wish only have to wait for the start of production.
Of course, a hybrid engine will not solve all the problems of car developers. However, it can be considered an intermediate option to extend the use of a traditional internal combustion engine. And ensure its application with less environmental pollution.
