On the road, anything can happen to a motorist, especially if his route is several hundred kilometers. It is possible that in the middle of the way the car's fan impeller will fail. Although this part is simple in design, its breakdown threatens to boil the car. What measures to take and how to act if the nearest service station is at least 50 kilometers away? Let's find out.

What can cause a breakdown?

In fact, the fan impeller itself (it will be a VAZ or an imported Volkswagen, it doesn’t matter) by its design cannot fail, unless it is damaged in advance with a sharp object. And a broken drive belt can disable it. In any case, it is useless to change the fan blades if they are visually in their place. Therefore, in case of such breakdowns, attention should be paid to other details that are closely interconnected in function.

How not to overheat the engine?

The fan impeller, like the radiator, provides the engine with effective cooling, so if it malfunctions, the risk of boiling increases tenfold. And in order to avoid such problems with the motor, you need to carefully monitor the temperature of the antifreeze. While the car is moving on the road, a stream of cold air blows onto the surface of the radiator, so you can move with a faulty fan. However, if the temperature of the internal combustion engine gradually increases, you can increase the speed a little. For safety reasons, you should not play with the speedometer, so the word "a little" is of particular importance here.

What to do if the above method does not help?

When the temperature of the motor gradually increases with increasing speed (and this is quite natural), there is only one way out of the situation - a complete stop and cooling of the motor on the side of the road.

How can I fix the breakdown?

When the nearest service station is about an hour away, of course, in such conditions, it is unlikely that anyone will guarantee you complete protection from engine boiling. The engine can boil even every 5 km, so it is best to call a tow truck and drive it to the nearest center. If this is not possible, you can try to fix the breakdown yourself. To do this, you can take an old camera from any car (even from a truck is suitable) and cut rings 2 centimeters wide from it. By installing such a product in place of the belt, you can safely get to the house: the fan impeller will work smoothly. However, this does not mean that such a tool completely replaces the standard part in terms of functions. Replace it with a normal spare part as soon as possible. Domestic manufacturers of fans, impellers and cooling systems have a wide range of products, so you can buy such products at any auto shop.

As you can see, a non-working fan impeller is not yet a death sentence for a car. There are many ways out of the situation, the main thing here is not to let the engine boil, otherwise you will have to fork out also for its repair.
