Every rider has his own concept of enduro. What protective equipment and style of behavior should be is a personal matter for everyone. But now we will talk about a special helmet designed for riding in tough off-road conditions, or rather, what a typical enduro helmet should be like.

Helmet

This is the most important part and an integral part of the wardrobe of every self-respecting motorcyclist. Without a helmet, only kamikaze can ride. All other fans of extreme sports know how such “rides” can end.

There can be a great variety of options for protective equipment: there are quite ordinary helmets that do not have distinguishing features and special devices, there are original versions that perform not only a protective, but also a decorative function. And there is a special enduro helmet designed for extreme riding.

Enduro highlights

Before delving into the specifics of a cross-country helmet, it's worth understanding how enduro riding conditions differ. Jumping over obstacles, climbing steep hills and descending from mountainous terrain, overcoming the sandy road, shooting along very many roads and forest debris … And this is not all the attractions of extreme off-road driving. Needless to say, how durable protective gear should be?

So, an enduro helmet should be made of the most durable material possible. Seams and docking places should not cause even the slightest doubt. The visor is an important detail that protects the pilot's face from dirt and sunlight. The elongated lower part is protection against possible facial blows.

A bit of history

The modern enduro helmet is the result of a fairly long evolution that the first model had to go through. Motorcycle helmets literally changed on the go, adapting to unusual driving conditions.

It all started with an outstanding model, which is currently called the ¾ open helmet. It was a versatile helmet that was used both on public roads and on racetracks. But very soon a visor appeared, which performed several functions at once:

  1. Protection from dirt flying from under the opponent's wheels.
  2. Sun protection.
  3. Protection against clods of dirt flying from under your own wheels.

In addition, a cross-enduro helmet equipped with a visor is less polluted in bad weather. Do not forget that the track can pass through a wooded area where there are foliage and tree branches.

How the "jaw" appeared

The lower “jaw” of the helmet, extended forward, is a mount for cross-country glasses and protection in case of a possible fall. Initially, it was a completely ordinary plastic mask that was attached to the glasses. Over time, the "jaw" has become much larger and is no longer a removable mechanism - it is now an integral part of a cross helmet.

An enduro helmet with a visor is often used for stunt riding as well, as it provides sufficient visibility, is relatively light in weight, and also allows for vigorous breathing.

Optimal choice of cross helmet

Enduro is not just a specific style of driving. As bikers say, sooner or later everyone will be in this saddle. This is a special warehouse of character and lifestyle. "Endurovtsy" are not afraid of falls and difficult tracks, quite the opposite - the more difficult the obstacle on the way, the more willingly the throttle is turned. And this means that the pilot must take care of his safety and, first of all, buy an enduro helmet. Choosing the best option is easy. Just take into account some of the nuances:

  • Correctly selected size. Extreme conditions are constant jumping and activity, so the helmet must fit perfectly on the pilot's head without causing discomfort.
  • With or without a visor? Here everyone chooses the most optimal and suitable option. Some people prefer to use separate glasses that are attached to the “jaw”, while others prefer an enduro helmet with a visor.
  • The fastening straps must be securely fixed, their strength should becheck before buying, not in practice.
  • It is advisable to choose a model with a movable visor and immediately check the serviceability of the mechanism - it should easily slide in and out.

In modern models, the enduro helmet is equipped with a matte film. It is desirable to immediately stick it on the inner surface of the visor. This accessory is designed to prevent the surface of the visor from glare in sunny weather.

Enduro helmet is the safety of the pilot under extreme driving conditions.
