It can be interpreted as a hybrid, some kind of intersecting phenomenon. In relation to a car, this means combining the advantages of several other types of cars in one vehicle.

Understanding what a crossover is is difficult until the distinguishing features of such a car are determined. These include:

- clearance, like an SUV;

- high driving position and high ceiling in the cabin, like a minibus;

- comfort and convenience, like a sedan;

- the presence (not always, but usually) of all-wheel drive, which allows you to overcome light off-road and bad roads;

- modern and stylish design.

Already a simple enumeration of the design features inherent in this car, allows you to understand what a crossover is. In fact, this is a city car that provides its owner with the opportunity to move comfortably in a variety of conditions, both in city traffic and on the highway, as well aslight off-road. Such a vehicle has a fairly roomy trunk, capable of carrying several passengers with the necessary comfort and safety level.

However, in any car, in addition to advantages, there are also disadvantages. In relation to the crossover, the following can be noted:

- its operation turns out to be more expensive than an ordinary car;

- the center of gravity of the crossover is high, which leads to rolling in corners;

- braking distance slightly increased due to increased mass;

- maneuvering in the stream is difficult due to large dimensions.

Despite some of the shortcomings of crossovers, their popularity is constantly growing, and more and more of these vehicles fill the streets of our cities. Accordingly, new models of machines appear and old models are modernized. And as a result - an attempt to determine the best crossover. There are many magazines and other auto publications that give the car their own ratings, and each publication has its own choice of such a crossover. However, this does not mean that the car they have chosen is really the best.

Another, no less popular, is the attempt to determine the most economical crossover. And this occupation can be considered unpromising. It's not that the cars don't pass the necessary checks. The problem will lie elsewhere. The numbers obtained in tests are not always, or rather, rarely, will be repeated in real operating conditions.

A specially prepared sample is provided for testing, on which the engineers made the necessary adjustments and made the necessary settings at the factory. Such conditions are often simply impossible to repeat in real operation, and for an unskilled consumer. Actual consumption and operating costs will be higher than promised by the manufacturer.

Despite such possible discrepancies of reality with the results of tests and tests, they do not affect the understanding of what a crossover is. Briefly, it can be described as a universal city car, with a certain ability to drive outside the city on poor quality roads.
