Honda auto concern is famous not only for its motorcycles, but also for its cars. The world-famous models Civic, CR-V, Accord, Prelude and many others have long won the hearts of fans around the globe. Of course, Honda is not only sports coupes, comfortable sedans and all-wheel drive crossovers. A significant part of the production has always been occupied by compact family cars - minivans. "Honda Stream" is one of them, it is about him that this article will be discussed.

History

"Stream" (translated from English - "flow") is a compact minivan with seven seats, which debuted in 2000 in the Japanese market. And less than a year later, the model appeared on the European market. At that time, a gap was formed due to the discontinuation of the Shuttle and Civic models in the body of the Aerodek. To fill it, Honda Stream was created. The technical solutions that this model was equipped with did not give a clear understanding of the line between a minivan and a passenger car represented by "Stream". That is why he was and continues to be an excellent compromise when choosing a car for everyday driving with the whole family and inalone.

At the moment, the Stream family has two generations, the first of which has undergone restyling and some changes. The latter is still produced to this day and is one of the most preferred options for compact family cars around the world. The ratio of price, quality and reliability gives an undeniable advantage over a number of competitors.

Appearance

So, the first generation of the Honda Stream car, the photo of which in various finishes is presented in this article, had a relatively low body, which made it possible not only to give the car a sporty image, but also very effectively lower the center of gravity. The result of these decisions was to give the car an attractive and rather swift appearance. But, if someone says that a small clearance takes away the convenience of passengers, they will be absolutely wrong: on all three rows of seats, passengers feel cozy and comfortable, due to the well-thought-out arrangement of parts under the bottom.

It is worth noting that the body of the Honda Stream was made in a streamlined style and looked like a spindle. The red line of the rear lights, which girdled the glass of the trunk lid, looked very unusual and modern. The rich color range of the line made it possible to find a suitable option for any, even the most picky car enthusiast.

Salon

As mentioned earlier, there were seven seats in the car. But do not forget that automakers often change the configuration and characteristics of the car, respectively, "Honda Stream" existed in a five-seateroption. It should be added that the seven-seater model after restyling turned into a six-seater, as a dividing armrest appeared on the rear sofa for the convenience of passengers.

In a fairly compact and limited space, Honda engineers have adapted all the necessary amenities for the driver and passengers. In the salon itself, Japanese minimalism prevailed: all lines are monosyllabic. Most of the interior of the machine consisted of dark gray and black plastic. In all sorts of places, a large number of different shelves and boxes for small items are hidden. In order to dilute the slightly dull look of the plastic, titanium-colored inserts were made and the instrument panel, which has an orange fluorescent backlight, was very beautifully decorated.

Engine

The first generation of the Honda Stream, whose technical characteristics excite the mind to this day, was equipped with several options for gasoline engines of 1.7 and 2.0 liters. The reviews highlight exactly the two-liter unit, the body of which was all-metal, and the engine itself had a modern system of intelligent dynamic control of the valve timing and i-VTEC valve lift. This “monster” spun up to the cutoff in a matter of seconds and made it possible to reach the coveted hundred from the start in just 9.5 seconds already in second gear.

The 1.7-liter VTEC engine, which was borrowed from the American Civic Coupe, was not spared either. This "heart" did not give such playfulness anddynamics, but allowed to save fuel in all driving modes.

Gearbox

There were several variations of the gearbox: a five-speed manual and two automatic options. For the 1.7-liter engine, a four-speed automatic was offered, which did not allow to develop a high maximum speed, but gave dynamics during acceleration.

The two-liter "row" was equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission with sequential mode. Particularly convenient was the location of the gear selector - on the center console. The main advantage of the automatic transmission was soft and almost silent gear shifting. A nice addition was the ability to switch the box to "manual mode".

Chassis

Honda Stream Suspension, the characteristics of which are shown below, differed depending on the vehicle configuration. In any case, the car was equipped with independent suspension for each wheel, front and rear anti-roll bars. Sport versions had stiffer dampers with less travel, and the rear anti-roll bar featured a larger diameter.

I would like to note that the drive of the car directly depended on the place of distribution. For example, front-wheel drive was equipped with models that were supplied to the foreign market. But all-wheel drive variations occupied a small part of only the Japanese market.

Safety and comfort

An important factor when choosing a car "HondaStream" was that a suitable compromise was found between the safety and comfort of all people in the cabin. The car was equipped with four airbags, central locking, belt tensioners, ABS, air conditioning, heated mirrors and front seats, electric sunroof, glass and mirrors, as well as alloy wheels and fog lights. A variation of the car with a 1.7-liter engine called "G" was equipped with an immobilizer and shift paddles.

Second Generation

In 2004, the model was changed, gave it a new look. The exterior and interior were redesigned, which made it possible to achieve a more harmonious combination of the materials used. The grille became more aggressive, and transparent headlights were also installed. In all trim levels, round fog lights are now used, installed in a new bumper. The rear bumper has also undergone refinement and changes, and foglights and reversing lights have migrated to the tailgate.

The technical stuffing of the Honda Stream car, reviews of which have always been positive, has not changed after restyling. The front suspension also features MacPherson struts, while the rear uses double wishbones with torque arms.

At the end, it is worth saying a few words about more expensive and luxury equipment. The S badge on the tailgate indicates the presence of "smart" bit headlights, the SS Package and Absolute variations use alloy wheels fromdark gray metallic aluminum. A distinctive feature of the expensive Honda Stream trim levels, the photos of which are impressive, is also the presence in the cabin of holders for mugs and a folding table, ignition key illumination.
