Self repair VAZ 2114 - replacement of brake discs

The order of work is as follows:

1. We put the car on a flat horizontal platform. We turn on the parking brake. We support the rear wheels.
2. Use a balloon wrench to unscrew the wheel bolts of one of the front wheels.
3. Jacking up the front of the car from the right side. We unscrew the bolts completely. Remove the wheel.
4. Turn the steering wheel to the side until it stops so that you can get to the caliper mounting bolts.
5. Using a 17 wrench, unscrew the bolts (2 pcs.) Attaching the caliper to the steering knuckle. We dismantle the brake assembly without disconnecting it from the brake hose. Using a piece of wire, we hang it, for example, to the shock absorber spring so that the brake hose does not twist.
6. We process the places where the disk is connected to the hub, as well as the mounting pins, with VD-40 liquid. Waiting for minutes10-15 while liquid "works".
7. Using a 12 wrench, unscrew the two pins securing the disk.
8. Remove the disc from the hub. If it does not come off, gently knock it down using a mallet or pullet with a wooden spacer. Strikes should be applied from the back of the disc closer to its center.
9. When the disk is dismantled, clean the seat on the hub with a brush (dry cloth). Additionally, you can treat it with WD-40 liquid.
10. Install the new disk in place. Screw in and tighten the guide pins.
11. We put the brake mechanism. We fix it with bolts.
12. Mounting the wheel.
13. Remove the jack, tighten the wheel bolts.
14. In the same way, change the brake disc on the other wheel.

Before driving on the road, it is recommended to test the braking system off the road. To do this, drive at low speed somewhere in the yard and evaluate the braking performance.

Features of replacing standard disks with ventilated ones

If you decide to install ventilated discs, you should know that all their modifications are wider than standard ones. Therefore, in addition to them, you will need to buy the appropriate calipers, front pad guides, as well as protective covers. Purchasing all these items separately is quite problematic. It's better to buy a set. The standard kit for two wheels includes: discs, calipers, shoe guides and faceplates (casings). The price for such a set starts from 9000 rubles.

The algorithm for replacing standard disks with ventilated ones is a bit more complicated and will take 5-6 hours. Here you need to disconnect the brake hoses, remove the brake cylinders. And at the end of the work, you will also have to pump the brakes.
