The heater of a car is not called a stove for nothing, because it is designed to make the driver and passengers feel comfortable in the cabin, regardless of the ambient temperature. A malfunction of this device can cause a lot of trouble. And it's not just about comfort. The stove, in addition to its main function - heating, also serves to blow the windshield. And this is very important, especially on frosty days. Without it, the driver will have a very difficult time.

In this article we will talk about one of the main elements of the stove - the fan. We will consider why it is needed, what it is, for what reasons it fails and how it is repaired or replaced.

Design of the "fourteenth" heater

VAZ-2114 stove consists of the following elements:

• plastic case;
• heater radiator;
• fan.

Heater operation principle

The heater itself does not produce heat. As its carrier, heated coolant is used, which enters the stove radiator. In the process of heat exchange, the air inside the device heats up and begins to penetrate into the cabin through special nozzles. However, natural circulation is not enough to warm up the interior of the car. The supply of warm air under pressure is carried out by a fan. It is thanks to him that the interior of the car warms up in a matter of minutes.

What is a heater fan

The VAZ-2114 stove fan is a conventional DC electric motor powered by the car's on-board network. The air flow is created by the rotation of a cylindrical impeller mounted on the armature shaft.

The fan is controlled by a special switch located on the control panel. It has four positions corresponding to its operating modes: "OFF" mode and three speeds. The faster the rotation of the impeller, the stronger the flow of air supplied to the passenger compartment.

Heater fan malfunctions

In VAZ-2114 cars, the stove fan can be replaced both as part of routine maintenance and when critical malfunctions are detected. The device does not belong to the list of the most frequently broken, but still problems happen with it. The most "popular" breakdowns include:

• weararmature bearings;
• brush wear;
• destruction of the brush commutator;
• open or short circuit in the armature (stator) windings.

Don't rush to dismantle

Having found that the fan of the VAZ-2114 stove is not working, do not rush to dismantle and disassemble the heater. First you need to check the electrical circuit of the device, namely:

• fuse;
• mode switch resistor;
• wiring.

If the fan of the VAZ-2114 stove does not work, first of all we check the fuse. It is located in the main mounting block and is indicated on the diagram as F-7 (30 A). We remove it from the landing nest and “ring” it with a tester. If necessary, we change.

The next step is to diagnose the switch resistor. With the ignition on, turn the switch knob to the position corresponding to the third speed. If the fan is running, change the resistor.

Checking the wiring is to measure the voltage supplied to the device. Here you need to raise the hood, find the connector with the wires going to the fan, connect the voltmeter probes to them and take measurements by switching modes with the ignition on. There is voltage - the reason is in the electric motor itself, no - it is better to contact an auto electrician to diagnose the wiring.

Bearing wear

A sign of worn fan motor bearings is a characteristic hum. At the initial stage of a malfunction, this phenomenon usually does not affect the operation of the device, but withover time, it will definitely turn into a more serious problem. Therefore, noticing that the fan of the VAZ-2114 stove is buzzing, hurry up to lubricate the bearings.

Brush wear and collector destruction

Brushes bring electric current to the motor armature. They are made of graphite and are naturally subject to wear. If the electric motor is operating normally, they can last for 50-70 thousand kilometers. However, the influence of various negative factors reduces the service life of the latter by several times.

Destruction of the collector is most often the result of wear or misalignment of the brushes. Restoring this element is quite problematic even for a specialist, therefore, if a similar problem is discovered, then for the VAZ-2114, replacing the stove fan will become inevitable.

Open or short windings

The situation is even more complicated with windings. If a collector malfunction can be detected visually, then here it will be necessary to measure the resistance in different areas, and even then it is not a fact that after the problem is detected, it can be eliminated by rewinding. The best option in this case for the VAZ-2114 is to replace the stove fan. In addition, the new device will not cost so much. An electric motor with an impeller costs about 1100 rubles, with a casing - 1300 rubles.

How to remove the stove fan on the VAZ-2114

In order to repair or replace the fan motor, it will need to be removed. This can be done in two ways: by dismantling the heater assembly or by removing only the motor.

In the first case, you will have to disassemble the interior plastic, drain the refrigerant, disconnect the heating radiator from the cooling system, etc. Such dismantling can only be justified in one case - when you need to replace the VAZ-2114 stove assembly. If you do not plan anything like this, the fan can be removed from the side of the engine compartment. The procedure is as follows:

1. Raise the hood, find the casing of the stove fan VAZ-2114. It is located under the windshield. You'll recognize it by its rounded shape and the black plastic it's made of.
2. Unscrew 2 screws and 2 bolts, with which the casing is attached to the body of the stove.
3. Disconnect the power wire connectors.
4. With a thin slotted screwdriver or a knife, open the latches of the halves of the casing. Disconnect the halves, remove them to the side.
5. We turn the fan so that it can pass between the side of the engine compartment and the decorative grille. Removing the device.

How to replace the fan

On the VAZ-2114, replacing the stove fan will not cause any difficulties. Especially if you have already dismantled the faulty device. The first step is to check the fan. To do this, lay it on a flat surface and bring two wires from the battery to the connector. Has the electric motor started? Then connect the device to the "native" connector of the wires going to the engine compartment from the passenger compartment. Turn on the ignition, and then the mode switch. Check if it worksfan in all its positions. After that, place the electric motor in its place and close the casing. Screw the casing to the heater body. Connect the power wires.
