Russia today is a world-renowned leader in the manufacture of weapons and armored vehicles.

Thus, the Research and Production Corporation Uralvagonzavod is one of the main facilities for the production of equipment for the defense sector. A module with an automatic gun of 57 mm caliber was installed on the Atom infantry fighting vehicle. According to the developers, it has excellent ballistic characteristics. Those who understand military equipment assumed that they had a French model with a BMP-3 turret. However, later it turned out: this is nothing more than a new development. For the first time in the history of the defense industry, a domestic enterprise, together with colleagues from abroad, joined forces and were able to develop a promising model and then jointly promote it to world markets.

French specialists specially for this machine provided a running gear on eight wheels, as well as a body from the VBCI serial model. The Russian side, in turn, installed a combat model with a rotating turret on the platform.

The wheeled platform can move even over rough terrain at a speed of more than 100 km/h.

The car also swims well and has enough power reserve to overcome more than 750 km.

The weight characteristics of the heaviest armored vehicle on this platform, according to experts, can be 32 tons. In order for the Atom infantry fighting vehicle to be sufficiently mobile and powerful, it is equipped with a Renault engine. Its power is 600 hp, and it works in tandem with automatic transmission. However, if customers so desire, this model can be equipped with multi-fuel engines of domestic production, which are distinguished by even higher power ratings.

During the construction of this concept, developers are taking a set of measures that are designed to significantly improve the survivability of this car. So, the hull will be made blocky, the level of protection against mines will be higher, and the model will not be affected by portable anti-tank weapons.

It must be said that it is planned to use a 57-millimeter cannon as a weapon in the Atom infantry fighting vehicle. The choice of caliber in this case is not an accident. This weapon (more precisely, ammunition for this gun) is capable of destroying all existing models of armored light vehicles of world manufacturers, as well as some battle tanks.

So, the BMP can move in different typesterrain at speeds up to 100 km/h. The power reserve is enough for 750 kilometers. The model is equipped with an automatic transmission, an independent suspension system, as well as a set of equipment for overcoming water obstacles. This is with regard to mobility indicators.

Survivability is provided by the following set of characteristics. So, ballistic protection is raised to the fifth level. The carrier-type hull, created according to the block principle, is made of special armored steel. The tires were designed in such a way that, in the event of a possible accidental puncture, the BMP could move and perform combat missions. There are also opportunities for mounting anti-cumulative screens, active protection systems, radiation warning systems. The body is reliably protected from any types of weapons of mass destruction.

The BMP is 8.2 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 2.5 meters high.

The body is designed for eleven seats. Gross weight - up to 32 tons. The entrance is organized in the rear ramp, and you can get in and out of the cab through four hatches on the roof.

Combat performance

The cannon can effectively shoot and hit targets at a distance of 6 kilometers. As for the rate of fire, it is up to 140 rounds per minute. The gun provides a wide range of targeting angles.

Russian sanctions are not a hindrance

Thus, due to the sanctions applied to our country, the French partners refused further cooperation on the BMP (the Atom project). But this did not prevent finding new partners inour country.

According to the project director, the new car will be completely domestic production.

By the way, in 2015, the equipment was demonstrated in full working order at an exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The new infantry fighting vehicle managed to impress the audience and specialists.
