Mercedes W213 is the fifth generation of the E-class executive cars produced by the famous Stuttgart brand. It was it that replaced the W212 models. The generation was presented in 2016, January 11, in Detroit. And sales are planned to begin in the summer. In general, everything is still ahead. Mercedes W213 should be the most technologically advanced Mercedes. The novelty is assembled on the MRA modular platform, and it is also used by the latest C- and S-class cars (which also gained their popularity. The novelty has become larger in size when compared with its predecessors. But the weight, nevertheless, has become less. And all thanks to the use of special materials in the production of the body - aluminum and high-strength steel.
The lineup has received many updates. The most significant is the emergence of new, in-line 6-cylinder engines. Plus, there are new diesel engines,whose code name is OM654. But the 4-cylinder gasoline units from the W212 survived.
Design, as always, at the highest level - something new resembles the new "C"-class. The length of the model will be almost five meters. The wheelbase is almost three meters. The height was slightly reduced - by 6 mm, as well as the width - by 2 mm. Thanks to these changes, the body began to look very dynamic and impressive.
What to expect?
Mercedes W213 in the most expensive versions will please its potential owners with a digital dashboard, which the developers decided to combine with a multimedia display. The diagonal is striking - it is as much as 12.3 inches. In the basic version, everything looks a little different. The diagonal of the screens is only 8.4 inches. But this is basically enough. Instruments in basic models are analog. The equipment is very diverse - wireless charging for the phone, a variety of security systems, cruise control, as well as other necessities and delights that Mercedes is used to pleasing.
By the start of sales, a number of power units will be only two items. It will be a 184 horsepower gasoline engine (for the E200) and a 195 horsepower diesel engine. (for E 220 D). Each of the listed engines operates under the control of a nine-range “automatic”. The E200 model is able to reach 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, while the diesel version is faster in 7.3 seconds.
Other Features
Mercedes W213 will be offered first as a sedan. Then they go on salestation wagons with a trunk, the volume of which was 695 liters. A year later, it is planned to start selling coupe versions. And at the end of 2017, Mercedes expects to start producing convertibles as well.
Many have a standard question: "What about the cost?". How much will you have to pay for such an attractive Mercedes W213? The price of the car will be rather big, but not particularly prohibitive. The base model E200 will cost about 45,305 euros. Diesel modifications will cost more - the price for the E 220 is 47,125 euros, and for the E 320 - 55,605 €.
Serial equipment will be able to please potential buyers with Active Brake Assist and PRE-SAFE systems, as well as THERMATIC climate control operating in automatic mode. The car will also be equipped with a DYNAMIC SELECT switch (five modes of operation of the gearbox) and the Audio 20 infotainment system. The seats in the car are electrically adjustable.
Exterior and Interior
Mercedes-Benz W213 features eye-catching front optics with LEDs and Stardust taillights. The design is very elegant and flowing - much more elegant than its predecessor, the W212. The lower part of the bumper of the car looks very interesting - its developers decided to equip it with a chrome-plated diffuser. Two exhaust pipes were integrated into it.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz W213 is made in the best traditions of the Stuttgart company. Everything is exquisite, beautiful, elegant - in German strict and with the highest taste. Particularly pleased with the proposal of developers to equip model 23 (!) with powerful speakers with 3D sound - of course, for an additional fee. The steering wheel has touchpads - they respond instantly, and with them you can control the infotainment system of the model.
By the way, the chairs are equipped with lateral support and 14 massage pneumatic elements. There is even heated armrests (available as an option).
About technical features
The suspension of the Mercedes-Benz E-class W213 is offered in three versions (comfortable, stiffer and sportier). The top versions offer adaptive, pneumatic.
What about engines? As already mentioned, initially the models will be offered with only two motors. But then there will also be 150- and 258-horsepower units. The first - for 4, and the second - for 6 cylinders. These are diesel options. It is also expected to release models with petrol, 330 and 240 “horses”. But in addition to them, the line should also include a hybrid modification with a 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor, which in tandem will develop 286 hp
In general, the novelty turned out to be more than powerful and effective. It has a lot of features - from autonomous driving to collision avoidance systems. But everything will be known in more detail only after full test drives, but for now it remains only to wait for the start of sales.
